Project updates

Update by Kevin McGargle

Good afternoon,

Just thought i would give you a final update on the project as follows:-

We have now completed all of the topsoil installation and the reinstatement of the paving to the bus stop on Middle Engine Lane. All traffic management that we have had on site will be removed today, follow on works will be the installation of the bus shelter by the bus company in the near future and seeding works to the verges next week. Naturally the planting works to the flower beds will be done later in the year due to them being a seasonal species.

Hope you have a great weekend and enjoy the glorious weather.

Regards

Good morning,

Just thought i would  give everyone a general update on the project for this week and next. As you may have noticed the fencing to the old site compound on Addington Drive has now been removed with landscaping works due to start next week. The area around to Middle Engine Lane has had the topsoiling works carried out ths week and despite the bad weather it has progressed well and shouldnt be far away from being completed today with some minor works to follow next week.

We intend next week to start removing all the boundary fence from the remaining area and carry out the landscaping to this part of the scheme on Middle Engine Lane although we will need to return later in the year to do the planting works.

Have a great Bank Holiday Weekend.

Best Regards

Good Aftenoon Eveyone

For the past few days you will have noticed we have been reinstating the area around Bewick Park and Addington Drive, relaying kerbs, replacing areas with top soil for the grass to grow and generally trying to get everything back to normal.

The finish line to our work is clealy in sight, "thank goodness I hear you all say".

We have always been conerned about the disruption to both residents and motorists during the project so with that in mind we, at MMB would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support we really appreciate your patience during the project.

In a few weeks the landscaping will be back to its former glory and I am sure it will look as though we were never there.

We will be back in a few weeks to check everything is going well and to ensure the underground pipework is working as it should so we will see you sooner than you think!

Thank you all again

Good Morning,

Just to let you know we have decided to open the pedestrian walkway along Addington Drive and it will remain open until the end of the scheme. The reason being is our site guys are understandably concerned about your health & safety whilst using the paths along the Drive, however, their concern has been compounded by the presence of the alternative contractor near our site.

We have cleared and cleaned the pathway and changed the signs accordingly to minimise the risk, we do hope that eases the situation for you.

Afternoon Everyone,

There has been lots of activity this past few weeks.............

  • unexpected facilities found underground
  • other contractors turning up to site
  • alternative contractors turning up to site without notice

My goodness the site guys have had their hands full. John and his team discovered a gas pipe which crossed over our works so with that in mind you will see lots of digging and lots of reinstating for the next few days as we are making extra sure we have no more unexpected little encounters!!

Unbelievably they are progressing really well and the team are striving to finish within the programme.

Hopefully some planting and landscaping will take place soon.........Spring will definitely be on the way then.

Morning

Just thought I'd let you know, yesterday we were surprised to see another contractor installing some traffic management and pedestrian crossing closure along Addington Drive. (This contractor is not included in the Northumbrian Water and MMB works they are conducting a separate piece of work for an alternative business).

However to accommodate their work as your health and safety is our priority we have decided to adjust our path closures to try to alleviate any confusion for the public walkways. We do hope it does not inconvenience you too much and apologies for the late notification, but would respectfully request extra care is taken in the area. The alternative contractor is expected to be in the vicinity for this week only, however should that change I will keep you informed so please "watch this space" for further posts.

If you require further information please get in touch.

Hello

I visited site yesterday and boy have things developed........

John and his team have really drove this project on and the end is definitely in sight. Ian tells me on Monday the "coned off" area at he entrance of the estate will be back filled and by close of play the road will be fully open and operational.

Whilst walking the site and Ian updating me as to it's progress I was alarmed as to what I experienced next, and subsequently became a new "lollipop lady".

It goes without saying your health & safety is paramount to us so when we close paths we fence off the areas, post signs and notifications and then place cones in strategic places is to ensure no harm comes to our customers. My experience yesterday frightened me as some children decided to disregard the notices and walk between the fencing and kerbside towards oncoming traffic. The kerb is distinctive and constructed in such away it's not the easiest to walk on so I would hate to think what could happen.

Please, please if your child walks to/from the bus stop or in the vicinity of works towards home would you please reiterate they need to follow the "pedestrian" signs, and walk on the opposite side of the road. Thank you.

Good Morning,

By now John's team will have hand delivered my letter regarding the works update. We have made great progress on this project even though it has been challenging.

That said we have encountered some technical issues which has impacted on our schedule and this means the construction on the new sewer will need to continue until February 2017.  To mitigate the effects of this we have brought in additional resources, increased the working hours and have introduced and will continue to work Saturdays until early 2017.

We wish to reassure you that every effort is being made by the site team to minimise disruption and with that in mind we are suspending activities from Friday 23rd December until Thursday 5th January 2017 to ensure you have a peaceful Christmas and New Year. Our working area will be securely fenced off during this period and security measures will be put in place.

If you have any questions please feel free to drop me a line or speak to John or his Site Team.

Hoping you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

MMB Team
