Ashington Rainwise

We are working together with the community to reduce the risk of future flooding in areas of Ashington and Newbiggin-by-the-sea as part of our surface water management programme, Rainwise.

Update by Janine Rillands

Hi everyone, I work in the communications team at Northumbrian Water and I’m helping to get the message across about our rainwise initiative.

The project manager, Ian and I had the pleasure of attending a town council meeting in Newbiggin last night to discuss what we’re hoping to achieve in the Newbiggin/Ashington drainage catchment. It was great to make introductions and let residents know how they can get involved.

As climate change is predicted to increase the intensity of rainfall, we want to be prepared for the future and you too can do your bit to help reduce the risk of flooding. Check out the top tips on our website www.nwl.co.uk/rainwise about how you can take small steps to manage surface water around your home. If everyone does their bit, we can reduce the risk of flooding as a whole!
