Ashington Rainwise

We are working together with the community to reduce the risk of future flooding in areas of Ashington and Newbiggin-by-the-sea as part of our surface water management programme, Rainwise.

Planned work

Rainwise projects are fundamental to Northumbrian Waters proactive management of flood risk. The flood risk in the Ashington catchment has been evaluated and prioritised, the Project Team are currently working on notional solutions in three areas of the town.

North Seaton Road.

To improve the resilience in the network in North Seaton Road approximately 500m of sewer is being considered in the vicinity of the Arch Workshops this will include a 1200mm off line storage sewer to provide additional capacity within the network. Lane closures will be necessary to undertake this work

Morpeth Road, Seventh, Eight & Ninth Rows.

On Morpeth Road Seventh, Eighth & Ninth Rows, we’re assessing the installation of over 3 Km a new surface water sewers, to help take pressure off the existing combined network. Road closures will be required to complete this work

Highmarket (rear).

We’re looking at installing an underground sewer to store storm water and carrying out some associated pipe work at Highmarket. Road closures would be required to complete this work.
