Ashington Rainwise

We are working together with the community to reduce the risk of future flooding in areas of Ashington and Newbiggin-by-the-sea as part of our surface water management programme, Rainwise.

Working in your community

WE ARE WORKING PROACTIVELY WITH COMMUNITIES TO MANAGE THE AMOUNT OF RAINWATER THAT ENTERS THE SEWER NETWORK AS PART OF OUR SURFACE WATER MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME, RAINWISE.

This will help to reduce the risk of flooding to homes and businesses now, and in the future, and protect our environment from pollution.

We have completed our initial investigation into flood risk within the catchment and have identified opportunities to carry out surface water management work in North Seaton Road, Northumberland Close and Seventh, Eighth and Ninth Rows.

You may see us or our contractors working in these areas, as we collect data to gain a better understanding of how the surface water impacts on our sewer network during heavy rainfall.

Local knowledge is important to help us fully understand the flood risks affecting your community so that we can work together to identify the right solutions for minimising future flood risk.

If there are any surface water issues in your area that you would like to discuss with us, you can let us know using this portal. Alternatively, please call us on 0345 717 000.

In the areas identified, it will be necessary for us to upgrade the existing network. We will use sustainable drainage solutions (SuDS) where possible.

These may include rainwater gardens, geoceullar tanks, new highway sewers, ponds or grassed detention basins and have wider social and environmental benefits, including providing a green space for people to go to in an urban area and creating valuable wildlife habitats.

We will let you know if there is a need for us to install any flood risk reduction measures, and will seek your views before any work is carried out.
