Consett Sewage Treatment Works Upgrade

Our proposed refurbished assets will allow us to remove more water from the sludge bi-product that is created when we clean the wastewater at Consett Sewage Treatment Works. The assets will reduce tanker road journeys thereby protecting and enhancing the environment. Our sewage treatment works aids NWG in improving the quality of rivers and coastal waters for the benefit of people, the environment and wildlife.

Update by Grant Crawford

Further update on progress at Consett STW.  Work is now well underway with the installation of the foundations and associated drainage pipework for the three new sludge holding tanks.  We have poured the base slab’s for sludge tanks 1 and 3 and are preparing to pour the concrete base on the last sludge tank on Thursday this week.  Other works completed has included main ducting, decent drainage pipework and associated manholes and the primary sludge diversion main.  Other works underway include benching to sludge tank bases, tanker off-loading area ground works and sludge feed main to the three tanks. The actual installation of the glass coated steel tanks is programmed to start on Monday 29th April 2019 and should take three weeks to complete.
