Crook

One of our top priorities is to reduce the risk of sewer flooding to our customers. Through our surface water management programme, ‘Rainwise’, we are working with our partners and local communities by managing the amount of rainwater in our sewer network. We have identified two areas in Crook and Howden le Wear where we can control the amount of rainwater entering the sewer, reducing the likelihood of flooding or pollution.

Working in your community

WE ARE WORKING PROACTIVELY WITH COMMUNITIES TO MANAGE THE AMOUNT OF RAINWATER THAT ENTERS THE SEWER NETWORK AS PART OF OUR SURFACE WATER MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME, RAINWISE.

This will help to reduce the risk of flooding to homes and businesses now, and in the future, and protect our environment from pollution.

Over the coming months, we will be investigating potential flood risk in areas of Crook and exploring opportunities to carry out surface water management projects.

You may see us or our contractors in your area, as we collect data to understand how the surface water impacts on our sewer network during heavy rainfall.

Local knowledge is important to help us fully understand the flood risks affecting your community so that we can work together to identify the right solution for minimising future flood risk.

If there are any surface water issues in your area that you would like to discuss with us, you can let us know using this portal. Alternatively, please call us on 0345 717 1100.

In some situations, to improve the performance of the drainage system it may be necessary for us to upgrade the existing network. We will use sustainable drainage solutions (SuDS) where possible.

These may include rainwater gardens, ponds or grassed detention basins and have wider social and environmental benefits, including providing a green space for people to go to in an urban area and creating valuable wildlife habitats.

We will let you know if there is a need for us to install any flood risk reduction measures, and will seek your views before any work is carried out.
