AS PART OF THIS COMMITMENT, WE ARE LOOKING TO INVEST OVER £3 MILLION TO INCREASE THE TREATMENT CAPACITY AT THE WORKS.
THIS WILL ENSURE WE CAN DELIVER SEWERAGE SERVICES THAT MEET THE NEEDS OF CURRENT AND FUTURE GENERATIONS IN A CHANGING WORLD AND MAINTAIN THE QUALITY OF THE EMBLETON BURN AND COASTAL WATERS FOR THE BENEFIT OF PEOPLE, THE ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE.
The Sewage Treatment works serves a population equivalent of circa 1,500 people. The process comprises an inlet works, primary settlement tank, two biological filters and two final settlement tanks before discharge to the Embleton Burn.
Over recent years new development has accelerated in the catchment. A recent capacity assessment suggests that as a result of growth the process units on the site are approaching their capacity. With further development identified in the future a capacity upgrade is necessary to ensure the works continue to provide adequate treatment for the community now and in future years.
