Esh Winning Sewer

Northumbrian Water are working in your are to improve our sewer network to reduce the risk of pollution incidents in Esh Winning. The Esh Winning sewer runs in close proximity to the Priest Burn and, at times of heavy rainfall, it can present a risk of pollution to the river. The solution we identified to this includes the installation of a new pumping station in the field opposite South Terrace and a new pipeline along the main road into the sewage treatment works.

Good afternoon everyone,

It's lovely to see a bit of sunshine back this afternoon after the typical autumn weather we have had earlier in the week.

You may have seen our site team carrying out some welding operations this week on the rising main pipework. Once all welding is complete the pipework will then be ready to be installed into the open trench within the carriageway of South Terrace.

We have also taken delivery of the PCC Valve Chamber segments this week, with 3 of them being installed into the base of the chamber along with 8 of the PCC wall panels also installed. Internal and external finishes are being carried out to the chamber walls which will continue into next week.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Thanks

Update by Becky Gartland

Afternoon all,

What a lovely few days we've had, lets hope the sun continues into the weekend!

You will see from the attached images that things are starting to take shape now within the area of the new pumping station. Yesterday we had Active Tunelling on site along with a crane to position the pumping station shaft concrete slab in place. Today crews have started to assemble a scaffold access tower internally within the shaft in preparation for mechanical & electrical works to be carried out. This will continue into next week.

Further tarmac works have been carried out within the carriageway of South Terrace as the drainage installation progresses closer to the pumping station access track. These works will continue into next week.

On Monday 20th September we are expecting delivery of a large excavator which will be used to commence work on the new Valve Chamber.

I will be popping to site early next week to catch up with residents in the area so feel free to come and say hello :)

Have a lovely weekend!

Good afternoon,

You may have seen me around on site yesterday providing residents with an update on our works.

This weekend we will be required to carry out some tarmac operations on Saturday 11th September 2021 in order to stay on schedule and to be ready for the traffic lights to be moved along on Monday 13th September 2021.

Following completion of the tarmac reinstatements the two-way traffic lights will then be moved further along the carriageway on South Terrace closer to the Pumping Station Working area. We anticipate this section of drainage installation to be complete within 5 weeks.

Over the next week you will see our site team carrying out excavation work within the carriageway of South Terrace in preparation to install the new rising main. Towards the end of the week, Active Tunnelling will be on site along with a 150t all-terrain crane which will be used to install the Pumping Station PCC Slab.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Thanks

Becky

Good morning,

I just wanted to give you all a quick update on how things are going on site this week.

The drainage installation works on South Terrace have been temporarily reinstated until we recommence from Tuesday 31st August. The two-way traffic lights will be back in operation on the stretch of carriageway outside of Woodview Car Sales from this date.

The site team have been keeping themselves busy by ensuring the site is clean and tidy and keeping on top of the high standards.

This week they are carrying out further works within the pumping station area to prepare for the second phase of the drainage installation.  This includes; topsoil stripping, re-profiling of the land and setting up herras fencing complete with the tree protection area.

Hope you all have lovely bank holiday weekend!

Thanks

Good morning,

It's lovely to see the sunshine back again!

Following on from my update last week the traffic management on South Terrace has now been repositioned for us to continue with the drainage installation. Due to Covid-19 and nationwide material shortages we will be required to temporarily pause this section of works on the highway. From Thursday 19 August 2021 until Tuesday 31 August 2021 the two-way traffic lights will be temporarily removed from South Terrace. We do not foresee this short pause in works to impact our overall target completion date.

If you have any queries regarding the work, please contact me.

Thank you
