GENERAL PROJECT

Fontburn Lime Dosing

Northumbrian Water is investing £3 million to upgrade the Water Treatment Works at Fontburn to make sure you continue to receive excellent quality tap water in the future. The work, which will commence from early March 2020 will see upgrades to the facilities and water treatment equipment within the site and we aim to complete this by September 2020. Northumbrian Water’s trusted partner, Interserve Construction Limited will be carrying out this work on our behalf. Residents may notice an increase of vehicular traffic to and from the site whilst deliveries are made although we will of course do all we can to keep the disruption to a minimum. Please be assured that your water supply will not be affected by these works. Glyn Jenkins NWL Project Manager

Hello everyone. The works at our Fontburn project are progressing very well. In this update, I want to share with you some of the environmental management protocols we have agreed and established on site. We consulted with Natural England and Northumbrian Water on the best way to protect the small animals and mammals that share the treatment works and local area with us.

Our environmental team constructed a "hibernacular" for displaced newts. This becomes a new home for them. The photo above shows a hibernacular that we made earlier.

We consulted with Natural England and agreed how we will manage the presence of any bats on site or in the immediate area. We obtained a "bat licence" before we started works on site.

Our site teams ensure we mitigate noise levels to minimise disturbance on local wildlife and our neighbours. We check all equipment for noise levels that will be generated before it is procured and we monitor noise levels on site to protect our colleagues on site, our neighbours and the local wildlife.

We are aware that light pollution can be an issue at Fontburn for our neighbours and for small mammals. We endeavour to cut all light pollution particularly at the beginning and end of the days.

Hello everyone. In today's update, I want to tell you about the good progress we have made on the installation of the two new lime silos.

The first new silo has been installed. We carried out the works while the treatment works remained operational. Our site teams are now fitting the pipelines, electrical cables and chemical lines to the silo.

The site teams will commission the first silo after the installation works are complete. The second silo will be transported to site and installed in the next phase of the works.

We have carried out all of the works on site without affecting the day to day operations of the treatment works. We have agreed a programme of works that allows us to construct the lime dosing infrastructure and Northumbrian Water to maintain the water supplies.

Our site teams will be connecting the new lime silo to the existing treatment plant after the commissioning works are complete. Works are progressing well and we will be arranging delivery for the second new silo shortly.
