GENERAL PROJECT

Harrowgate Hill Rising Main

Looking after the environment and reducing the risk of pollution are two of our top priorities. As part of this commitment, we plan to invest within the sewerage network to replace a failing pumping main from Mayfair Road Pumping Station to North Road, Darlington.

FAQs

What will the working hours be?

Once construction is underway the typical working hours will be Monday to Friday, between 8.00am and 6.00pm. If required, work may also be carried out between 8.00am and 1.00pm on a Saturday. We will notify you when weekend working may be required.

Will my water supply be affected?

We have no plans to disrupt your water supply while we work on this project. In the unlikely event that the team accidently disrupts the water supply, our clean water response team will be notified immediately and emergency repairs quickly undertaken.

Will the work cause disruption?

With most construction work it is inevitable that there will be some disruption in the immediate vicinity of the work. There will also be an increase in construction traffic in the area, with vehicles accessing the working area and compound.

While the majority of the pipeline along Mayfair Road will be installed using temporary traffic lights to control traffic, we will need to temporarily close sections of road to allow  construction work to proceed:

  • Mayfair Road - between Laburnum Road - Mrtyle Gardens,
  • Mayfair Road – Junction with the  A167
  • Back lanes leading onto Mayfair Road (inc Vernon and Oaklands Gardens)

We are working closely with Darlington Borough Council to agree traffic management requirements to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum. Alternative diversions sign posted and in place to allow vehicular access via Glebe Road.

We will also need to temporarily close the Longfield Road bus terminus for a period while we complete the trenchless drive beneath the A167. Alternative bus stops will be provided along Longfield Road.

Will access to my property / business be maintained?

The vast majority work can be managed using temporary traffic light control to allow both pedestrian and vehicular access to properties, however, we will be unable to maintain vehicular access to a small number of properties on Mayfair Road between the junctions of Laburnum Road and Mrtyle Gardens for a short period.

We will be in contact with effected residents to discuss this in more detail.

Please let us know if you, or any family, friends or neighbours will require additional assistance for access or anything else while this work is completed by calling 0345 717 1100.

How will customers and businesses be kept updated?

We will keep our community portal updated with key information about progress. For notifications about project news, traffic information and progress updates please sign up to the community portal here.

We will be speaking directly to all affected customers in advance of any changes to traffic management but please feel free to speak to our contractor directly who will be happy to discuss progress and answer any queries you may have.

For information and advice please contact us on 0345 717 1100 or log onto www.nwl.co.uk to chat online or arrange for a call back from our project team to discuss any queries.

Will the site be dangerous?

The site will be operated by our framework partner Mott Macdonald Bentley an experienced contractor working to tight health and safety standards. Working areas will be securely fenced off from public access at all times and alternative pedestrian access will be provided to ensure everyone is safe..

We do ask that everyone respects the site fencing, signing, guarding and instructions of our team when required for your own safety.

What will it look like when the works are complete?

The new rising main will be buried underground. Reinstatement of highways and verges will be agree with Darlington Borough Council and will be undertaken in line with national highway standards.

Will there be dust, vibration and noise?

The construction work will involve the use of large machinery, road cutting equipment, digging up ground, pouring concrete and working with granular materials which may result in some dust, vibration and noise.  The site team will do everything they can to minimise any inconvenience caused by this and will make sure that the work is carried out safely.

Will the roads be kept clean during the works?

The work will involve digging up and transporting soil and other excavated materials to storage or for disposal which may cause dirt on the roads.

The site team will employ a road cleaning specialist with mechanical road sweepers which will be used as required to maintain the cleanliness of affected roads.

Will I be able to access my drive or directly park outside my property?

There will be instances during the construction of drainage works within Mayfair Road when it will not be possible maintain vehicular access to your drive or park directly outside your property. We will provide regular updates as we progress with construction work all affected residents will be notified directly in advance.

We really would appreciate your continued patience and cooperation in these instances.
