GENERAL PROJECT

Harrowgate Hill Rising Main

Looking after the environment and reducing the risk of pollution are two of our top priorities. As part of this commitment, we plan to invest within the sewerage network to replace a failing pumping main from Mayfair Road Pumping Station to North Road, Darlington.

Planned Work

PLANNED WORK

The outline solution will include the full replacement of the existing rising main from the pumping station located at the bottom of Lemon Grove to a new discharge chamber just off North Road.

The new pipeline will be installed using a combination of traditional open cut trench work and sections of trenchless pipework. To maintain access to properties and minimise traffic disruption, we are looking to install sections of pipeline using trenchless techniques ((drilling from small pits) which will include the crossing of the A167 and also a section beneath the access to Lemon Grove.

While the majority of the pipeline along Mayfair Road will be installed using temporary traffic lights to control traffic, we will need to temporarily close sections of road to allow  construction work to proceed:

  • Mayfair Road - between Laburnum Road - Mrtyle Gardens,
  • Mayfair Road – Junction with the  A167
  • Back lanes leading onto Mayfair Road (inc Vernon and Oaklands Gardens)

We are working closely with Darlington Borough Council to agree traffic management requirements to ensure disruption is kept to a minimum. Alternative diversions sign posted and in place to allow vehicular access via Glebe Road.

We will also need to temporarily close the Longfield Road bus terminus for a period while we complete the trenchless drive beneath the A167. Alternative bus stops will be provided along Longfield Road.

Further site investigation work will be carried out in early in 2021 to confirm the location of critical services along Mayfair Road and A167.
