Good morning,

Starting this week, we have been putting new white lines down in the car park in advance of installing temporary hoarding for our working area.

The majority of access lanes running between the parking bays are now 2-way, please familiarise yourselves with the new road markings and give way appropriately.

The installation of the hoarding will take up to two weeks to complete and we may need a little extra working area while we install the fence posts and panels. Once secure, we will be starting work on the construction of the new pumping station shaft and will keep you updated on progress.

Many thanks in advance for your cooperation while we complete these works.

We are planning to commence essential upgrades to our sewers and highway drainage in the Heworth area very shortly and would like to invite you to join our project team on Tuesday 30 April 2019 at St Mary’s Church Hall between 3.00pm and 7.00pm to discuss the scheme in more detail and share your views on our proposals. If you miss us, we'll also have our community bus in the long stay car park on t Tuesday 7 May between 3.00pm and 7.00pm

The work will include the construction of a new surface water pumping station located within the Heworth Interchange long stay car park and associated surface water drainage between the pumping station and Low Heworth Lane. Work will begin on Monday 13 May 2019 and we expect to be substantially complete by Friday 20 December 2019. Please note that the long stay car park will be open as usual, however, there will be reduced parking bays for the duration of our construction work.

In addition, we will also be carrying out improvement work to existing sewers within Sunderland Road, together with the construction of a new relief chamber adjacent to the Swan Pub to reduce the risk of surface water flooding. This work will complement Gateshead Council’s ongoing surface water improvement scheme which will see the introduction of addition highway drainage within the Sunderland and Shields Road area to better manage surface water.

Traffic management will be necessary on Sunderland Road while we complete drainage improvement work. To ensure we do everything we can to keep traffic moving on Sunderland Road, we have scheduled this work over the school summer holiday period and are planning to temporarily close the junction of The Drive to reduce the number of temporary traffic light controls.

Please be assured that we are working closely with our partners to do all that we can to minimise any disruption to you and your community throughout the work. Typical working hours will be Monday to Saturday, between 8.00am and 5.00pm.

A site plan providing further details about our planned work can be found on the ‘planned work’ tab above.
