Killingworth & Longbenton

Together with our project partners, the Environment Agency and North Tyneside Council, we are investing over £5 million to manage surface water in the Killingworth and Longbenton areas of North Tyneside. This work will increase the capacity of the combined sewer thereby reducing the risk of flooding during heavy rainfall. The work is to be completed in 3 phases; Longbenton High School and Benton Green & Cemetery, Forest Hall & Killingworth Moor and finally Killingworth Lake. Phase 1 and 2 are now completed and the work around Killingworth Lake started in Summer 2018.

Update by Anthony Birkett

Hi Everyone

We have had a momentous week this week, as Richie puts it, it was Killingworth's own Channel Tunnel moment when our two tunnels met between Manhole 2 and 3! We'll now look to move on and continue with the pipe jacking to the next manhole.

We have also completed the work to tie in the culvert within Kier's car park. The resurfacing will be soon be done and a large part of the car park will be handed back to Kier - I bet they'll be pleased about that!

As we said last week, we have started work to the south of the Lake. We've started work on our temporary entrance off Southgate so should have the traffic lights off by the end of next week. As you know there will be a footpath diversion in place to the south of the Lake.

I've attached a couple of photos of our work this week.

Enjoy your weekend

Tony
