Killingworth & Longbenton

Together with our project partners, the Environment Agency and North Tyneside Council, we are investing over £5 million to manage surface water in the Killingworth and Longbenton areas of North Tyneside. This work will increase the capacity of the combined sewer thereby reducing the risk of flooding during heavy rainfall. The work is to be completed in 3 phases; Longbenton High School and Benton Green & Cemetery, Forest Hall & Killingworth Moor and finally Killingworth Lake. Phase 1 and 2 are now completed and the work around Killingworth Lake started in Summer 2018.

Update by Anthony Birkett

Hi Everyone

Richie has provided me with this week's progress update on our work at Killingworth. It's been another busy week on site - we've now finished the manhole in the Kier car park, so next week we will reinstate and resurface the area.

Around the corner on Southgate, I said previously that we had completed the access tract - now we have finished the manhole there too. You may have noticed that the fenced area is expanding a little, we will now start to develop the area so that we can use it as our compound. We'll be removing the topsoil and replacing it with stone temporarily so that we can begin to create the new basins.

I mentioned last week that we were expecting to divert a gas main on Station Road - This will now begin on 14 January 2019 instead of 3 Dcember 2018.

I've attched a couple of photos that Ive been sent.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Tony
