Killingworth & Longbenton

Together with our project partners, the Environment Agency and North Tyneside Council, we are investing over £5 million to manage surface water in the Killingworth and Longbenton areas of North Tyneside. This work will increase the capacity of the combined sewer thereby reducing the risk of flooding during heavy rainfall. The work is to be completed in 3 phases; Longbenton High School and Benton Green & Cemetery, Forest Hall & Killingworth Moor and finally Killingworth Lake. Phase 1 and 2 are now completed and the work around Killingworth Lake started in Summer 2018.

Update by Anthony Birkett

HI Everyone

I've been out and about around the Lake today, delivering letters to those around our working area. In July 2018 NWG wrote advising that we expected to complete the project by 30 April 2019. However, due to finalising the design requirements with our stakeholders, a section of the work was delayed, which had the knock-on effect of extending our completion date. We now expect to fully complete our work by 14 July 2019. A copy of the letter delivered can be found here

Thanks again to Lawrence for today's update:

As you may be aware we currently have a footpath closure in place to the South of the Lake - this will be in place until 15 May 2019. Work work will also be completed in the SIG car park by the same date.

As the attached images show, the work in the basins is almost completed, we now need to surface the paths and complete seeding.

The 'To Do List' is getting shorter by the day!

Enjoy your weekend

Tony

Work in the detention basins is Neary finish just waiting on surfacing of the paths and seeding
