Lockhaugh Sewage Treatment Works Screens Upgrade

Our proposed new screens will allow us to remove more solids from the influent. This will reduce maintenance activities and ensure an efficient site that is free of blockages and has significantly reduced wear and tear to the mechanical equipment. Our sewage treatment works aids NWG in improving the quality of rivers and coastal waters for the benefit of people, the environment and wildlife.

Good afternoon all, time for another update ready for MMBs festive shut down which starts on Wednesday 23rd December till 4th January 2021. We successfully installed and commissioned the second inlet screen on-site and now have a fully operational inlet works. Over the past week, we have been busy removing the main temporary welfare facilities from the site, now that the construction work is substantially completed. We do have some minor works on our return after Christmas which we expect to have finished within the first two weeks of the new year. On behalf of ourselves and Northumbrian Water we would like to thank you for your cooperation and patience whilst these essential works have been completed and we wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Good morning, since our last update things have been progressing very well and we are still on for completion by the end of December. Following the successful proving period of the first new inlet screen, wash-presses and wash-water system, we were able to remove the two existing screens and compactors last week. We are busy completing channel modification works which we aim to have completed by the end of this week, ahead of the second new screen installation on Monday 23rd November. Our next milestone is to have the second screen commissioned and operational by 8th December. Good morning all, good progress continues to be made in line with our programme and we expect to be completed by Christmas. Since my last update most of the civil works have been completed including constructing below ground pipework and concrete base slabs for the new wash water booster kiosk (pictures included below). Our electrical subcontractor has substantially completed the field cabling to the first new screen and strain presses. Control panel modifications have started this week which will allow the electrical works to be completed for the first phase of the works. We are aiming to commission and start the proving period for the first screen and both strain presses from the 26th October 2020. Following the proving period, we will be able to remove both the old screens and compactor and install the final new screen. Good morning all, time for another update. Since the last update several milestones have been achieved. The new inlet channel has been fully constructed and tied into the existing structure. We have installed the first new screen, launder channel and both new strain presses. Our electrical subcontractor has started on site completing the field cabling whilst we continue to complete the remaining civil works including commencing construction of the new wash water kiosk and header tank concrete bases including associated pipework and ducting. Looking forward, we aim to complete the electrical installation of the first screen over the coming months. Following a successful operational proving period by the first new screen. This will allow the existing screens to be removed and the final new screen installed. Good afternoon all, work is progressing well on site which was helped by the exceptionally good weather we all enjoyed throughout May. We have constructed the new inlet channel which will eventually house the first new screen. We are currently constructing the new concrete press slab where the two new washpress units will be sighted. Our specialist subcontractor will commence the mechanical installation of the two washpresses and screen in mid-July. Over the next four weeks we intend to complete the civil works associated with the modifications made to the inlet including completing new drainage and constructing the remaining concrete hard standings in readiness for the installation of new steel staircases and gantries. Good morning all, we hope you are well. Work to refurbish elements of the Sewage Treatment Works at Lockhaugh has recently recommenced following the enabling works completed back in February. The replacement of the aging inlet screens is essential to maintaining the effective treatment of sewage now and for years to come. Working under these exceptional circumstances has had its challenges especially with material procurement but we adapted and overcome them, and work is still progressing to programme. Given the nature of our work, our workforce has adapted seamlessly to the additional control measures required for protecting the workforce from COVID-19 such as increased cleaning regimes, travelling to site in separate vehicles, additional PPE, including wearing masks when the 2 metre social distancing can not be achieved and daily temperature checking of personnel. The construction of a new reinforced concrete inlet channel has commenced to allow the phased replacement of the screens. To date we have excavated and started constructing the concrete base (Picture 1). We have also started to construct the new reinforced concrete slab where the new screening compactors will be located (Picture 2). The new inlet channel and press slab need to be finished before the first screen is installed in early August.
