We are investing over £3 million to improve storm and preliminary treatment at Lynemouth sewage treatment works to improve the quality of effluent discharging to Lyneburn and meet the demands of an increasing population in the wider catchment. Our sewage treatment works aid NWL in improving the quality of rivers and coastal waters for the benefit of people, the environment and wildlife.
LOOKING AFTER THE ENVIRONMENT IS ONE OF OUR TOP PRIORITIES.
AS PART OF THIS COMMITMENT, WE ARE LOOKING TO INVEST OVER £3 MILLION TO INCREASE THE TREATMENT CAPACITY AT THE WORKS.
THIS WILL ENSURE WE CAN DELIVER SEWERAGE SERVICES THAT MEET THE NEEDS OF CURRENT AND FUTURE GENERATIONS IN A CHANGING WORLD AND MAINTAIN THE QUALITY OF LYNEBURN AND COASTAL WATERS FOR THE BENEFIT OF PEOPLE, THE ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE.
The Sewage Treatment works serves a population equivalent of circa 11,500 people. The process comprises an inlet works, primary settlement tanks, biological filters and final settlement tanks before discharging to Lyneburn. Additional storm flows that reach the works are also partially treated before discharging to the burn.
As part of a wider sewerage treatment enhancement programme, we are increasing the volume of flow receiving full treatment at the Lynemouth works. In addition, with further development identified in the wider catchment in the next ten years, this essential upgrade is necessary to ensure the works continue to provide adequate treatment for the community now and in future years.
