Murton (Berwick) Water Treatment Works Upgrade

As part of our ongoing investment programme and to ensure the highest level of customer service, we are planning to extend and improve the existing Water Treatment Works at Murton, near Berwick. It is intended that the new works will be located adjacent to the existing buildings. The main construction work commenced in late 2018 and is due to complete in September 2020.

Morning All

Just a quick up date.......

This week there will be a change in the visuals on site............deliveries of pipework will continue, so more vehicle movement, the mounds of soil in certain areas will also be moved. We will expecting a sub-contractor to install the cable for the site mains connection so the generator can be removed before Easter.

The treatment building is currently undertaking some radical changes, all internal and underground (they will not affect your water supply) however the external work has been conducted by open cut which has saved time on the programme.

In preparation of some planned steel work booked in for 20th May, we have decided to extend our working day a little..... 0700hrs-1830hrs starting this week so you will see us later than normal.

I hope to get some photos soon so watch this space and don't forget any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Good Afternoon,

Just to let you know what is going on......

The road is obviously open and I hope it allows the residents at the end of the village to get back to normal and they can now access their homes with a little more ease.

There has been a lot of progress in the compound area, the team have been moving an awful lot of spoil, they have installed a temporary road at the end of the site to provide access to extra land for much more needed storage because as the work delevops they will need more space. We have used a new innovative machine to move the soil.........  a 3D Intelligent Machine Control (ooooh get us!!!) making the moving of the soil more effective, efficient and slicker.

Excavations have ploughed on in preparation of the new contact tank for the treatment building.

We are ready to excavate the pipework under the treatment building which will happen next.

Have a look at the photos

Morning All,

Another update for you.......

What a different a week or two makes, the site entrance works are now complete, the tarmac surface does make the space look bigger and it's definitely tidier.

The topsoil within the grounds of the new treatment works location has been removed and the entrance to it has now been constructed. 50mm of rain falling during the week was disappointing as it hindered the progress of the earthworks.

The road main road will be closed for another week during this current phase of works, to allow testing of the new pipework we laid under the highway. Apologies for the inconvenience.

There will be a temporary speed restriction when the road is re-opened at the end of next week, as construction traffic will increase as surplus soil is removed from the site so again please be that little more cautious.

Our site cabins will be connected to the local water supply today, there will be disruption to the water supply in Murton between 10 – 14:00 hrs whilst Northumbrian Water make the connection. Apologies for the inconvenience. You should have received our letters and spoken to the site team on Friday.

We’ve worked collaboratively with Openreach over the past couple of weeks, Openreach took advantage of our road closure to install the new broadband cable for the local area

Good Morning,

Here are a couple of photos showing the new water mains being installed across the road into the new site. Our temporary home for the next 12months is progressing well as you can see from the cabin photograph. From my conversation with the site team they are starting to settle in really well in this beautiful part of the region and some are staying over locally which is great for the local economy.

Good Morning,

Just thought I'd give you our update of whats' happening:-

  • The team are continuing to prepare the site, I've attached some photos
  • For Health & Safety reasons we have decided to extend the road closure until 1st March, after all working in the highway is a hazard and the last thing we want is anyone getting hurt.
  • Today the deep excavations work for the new pipeline starts, they will be across the road outside the works compound, so please be mindful of the road diversion.

Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions you may have about the work.

Good Morning

This weather is just crazy today.

Just thought I would drop you all a timely reminder about our road closure. The increased traffic isn't a daily occurance however, there will be times when our deliveries may seem a little congested, as this depends on the requirements of the project. Whilst we endeavour to confirm delivery timings, their arrivals are never 100% on time I'm sure you can appreciate. (today being a prime example, the snow!)

I do appreciate it's a beautiful area of the region and you will want to be out and about, but if you are walking please recognise the closure as it also includes pedestrians.

Your health and safety is paramount to us so we respectfully request you are that little more vigilant if you are driver or a walker!

Have a good day.
