Killingworth Road - wall repair

We are working hard to repair the wall on Killingworth Road - we will use this page to provide updates about the repair and also the work required to clean up and reinstate the affected area.

Update by Christine Taylor

Good afternoon,

As promised the lovely Adam has provided an update from site, which includes last weeks progress.

Last week:

  • Existing stone retaining wall rebuild completed and concrete backfilled
  • Rear of capping beam backfilled and land drain/weephole arrangement install
  • Commenced dig to face of capping beam, to start works on the cladding facing works to the new retaining wall
  • Reduce coffer dam wall height to 2 bags high

Planned works for this week:

  • Continue with reduce level dig to new retaining wall face and commence puddle clay install to help prevent water ingress from the river
  • Blind out the dig with a layer of concrete to start forming the low level toe beam

Planned works for next week:

  • Diamond drilling of new piles to allow the new toe beam to be tied back
  • Start to form rebar for toe beam

Over the next couple of weeks my colleague Becky Gartland will be providing the updates with the help of Adam.

Stay warm.
