Killingworth Road - wall repair

We are working hard to repair the wall on Killingworth Road - we will use this page to provide updates about the repair and also the work required to clean up and reinstate the affected area.

Good morning,

I am on holiday for the next couple of weeks, so my colleague Becky will be stepping in to provide updates.

As always, Adam has provided our update.

This week:

  • Dig out of the contaminated pile mat and replacement with fresh stone completed mid week
  • Commenced reinstatement of the land drain to rear of new wall

Planned works for next week:

  • Continue with the land drain reinstatement
  • Commence coffer dam removal works from the Ouseburn water course

Please see below the progress report from our site team.

Progress this week:

  • Coping stones installed on 7th March to the new parapet wall
  • Access scaffold for the new parapet wall construction being removed today, from within the coffer dam in the Ouseburn
  • Cavity infill to the new parapet wall completed late last week
  • Complete sealing of movement joints to the new parapet wall
  • Commencing dig out of contaminated material to rear of the new pile cap, and replacement of same, with clean material. This is due to numerous flood events over the winter period, the material is possibly contaminated with Himalayan Balsam, which is an invasive plant

Planned works for next week:

  • Continue with excavation and replacement of contaminated material from rear of pile cap, including replacement of the land drain to rear of new wall

Good morning and happy Friday,

Please see below progress report from the site team.

This week:

  • Brickwork to the new parapet wall completed on 1st March
  • Temporary stone up of site to allow excavator to manoeuvre better on site comeced Wednesday, and expected to be complete by today. This work will allow better access for removal of the coffer dam from the river.
  • Cavity infill to the parapet wall is ongoing, and planned to be completed on Monday 7th March
  • Continue with rub up works to low level cladding concrete
  • Commence sealing of movement joints to new parapet wall

Next week:

  • Complete the cavity infill to the new parapet wall
  • Install coping stone to the new parapet wall
  • Remove scaffold from within coffer dam, and commence removal of coffer dam to the river
  • Continue with rubbing up of the low level in situ cladding concrete, and sealing of movement joints to new parapet wall

This week:

  • Rebar to full parapet wall installed early this week
  • Preperation for brickwork, including  cutting bricks as required for the header courses
  • Scaffold installation commence 17th Feb, and expected to be complete Friday 18th Feb. Scaffold is to allow construction of the new parapet wall brickwork

 

Planned works for next week:

  • Commence brickwork to new parapet wall
  • Continue with rubbing up of the low level in situ cladding concrete

Good afternoon,

I am sure everyone is looking forward to the weekend.  Before we all sign off today, Adam wanted me to share this update.

This week:

  • North and south section of low level insitu concrete cladding poured on Friday last week
  • Central section of low level cladding shuttered and poured on Wednesday
  • The NCC capping beams to either end of site are being shuttered and prepped for pouring on Friday

Work planned for next week:

  • Steel fixing of rebar to parapet planned for Monday/Tuesday next week, in prep for the brickwork element
  • Installation of scaffold access to river side of new wall expected to be complete late next week, to allow the construction of the new parapet wall brickwork

Good morning,

As its Friday, I thought it would be a great time to update all our customers on the progress of our team.

This week:

  • Continue with forming and installing shutters for the in situ concrete low level cladding, we expect to pour north and south sections on Friday (today). Middle section of same to be poured mid next week.
  • Complete steel reinforcement fixing to low level concrete cladding and the capping beams at either end of site.
  • Complete dowel installation for the capping beams at the north and south end of site, in preparation for beam construction.

Planned works for next week:

  • Continue with low level in situ concrete cladding construction, middle section pour planned for mid week.
  • Pour capping beams to north and south end of site, for late next week, possibly early the following week

Good morning,

This week the team on site have:

  • Construction of toe beam started on Monday, and poured today
  • Commence construction of low level in situ concrete feature cladding, to north and south ends of site
  • Remove last of existing brickwork to south end of site, and blinded out in preparation for capping beam construction

Next week the plan is:

  • Continue with low level in situ concrete cladding construction, pour planed for mid-late next week for north and south ends of site. Central section to follow
  • Start dowel installation for the capping beams at the north and south end of site, in preperation for beam construction

  • Completed the remedial works following various flood events during December
  • Commence drilling of the piles for the dowels, to tie the new toe beam to the piles

Next week the crew into to: 

  • Continue with brickwork demolition for remedial works to the south end of our works
  • The team will continue drilling of the piles for the dowels, to tie the new toe beam to the piles
  • Commence rebar cage construction and installation, with concrete of beam to follow

Good afternoon,

Can we please take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy new year.

The site team as always, have provided an update of their progress.

This week:

  • Remoblised to site following Christmas shutdown
  • Continue with remedials to site at low level, following flood events, in weeks leading upto the Christmas break
  • Continue to dig out and blind excavation for the low level toe beam

Planned works for next week:

  • Continue with back blinding of low level excavation for the toe beam, to guard against further flood events
  • Fencing will errected to the south end of our works to allow removal of trees and vegetation and other wortks required
  • Continue with dowel drilling to tie toe beam to piles
