Hi everyone

I hope you all remain well, and please accept my apologises as it’s been a while since I was last in touch. I would like to update you on our progress over the last couple of months.

Over the summer period the design consultants have be working hard to finalise the surface water management proposal for the village. It will be my pleasure to get together with the community to talk with you about the work we are planning as part of our Rainwise initiative.

Northumbrian Water and Northumberland County Council continue to work together,  we plan to invest up to £900,000 on the sewer flood risk reduction / Surface Water Management project. We hope to commence on Monday 16 October 2017 and aim to complete late April 2018.

You are invited to find out more about the project and to have your say at a drop-in session on Thursday 28 September 2017 at Ovingham Reading Room, West Road, NE42 6BW, between 3.30pm and 6.30pm.

We have posted out an invitation letter to all of the residents in the village. The letter will provide a little more information and should be landing on door mats at some point next week.

Please don't hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any questions about this project. You can leave your comments on this update or by ringing our customer centre on 0345 717 1100, one of the project team will return your call.

Have a great weekend and I look forwards to chatting with you on the 28th.

Hi everyone, I hope you're well.

Thank you to everyone who came down to see us at the Reading Room last night. It was great to be there and meet you all, and I hope you found it helpful to see the plans and chat to our Project Managers about the joint work that we're proposing.

I really enjoyed talking to you all about our Rainwise initiative too, and the changes you can make around your home and garden, no matter how small, to help manage surface water. If you took away some seeds, don't forget to send us a picture of your rainwise garden by tweeting #rainwise to @NorthumbrianH2O!

If you were unable to make it, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any questions about the scheme.  You can leave your comments on this update or by ringing our customer centre on 0345 717 1100.

Hi everyone

I hope you remain well, I would like to update you on our progress since last being in touch in January.

We are keen to engage with the local community seeking your views as the Ovingham flood risk reduction project develops. The project team are in the very early stages of design working up the notional solution drawings into a completed design. We really want to understand your views about these proposals and how we can minimise any disruption you and your community once the work gets underway. I have arranged a drop-in session where you can find out more about the project.

I would like to invite you to the drop-in session on Tuesday 7 March 2017 at Ovingham Reading Room, West Road, NE42 6BW, between 3.30pm and 6.30pm.

Updated drawings are posted on the Planned Works tab showing the most recent sewer flood risk reduction and Surface Water Management proposals. These proposals currently include :

  • An underground storage system in the grassed area south of Dene Close. This will help to store storm water during times of heavy rainfall.
  • An additional 75 metres of sewer pipe will be installed in Dene Close and Wheatfield Close which will allow the storm water to enter the storage system and return to the sewer network when there is room to do so.
  • An additional 30 metres of sewer pipe above the existing sewer at the entrance to the estate along Castle View, which will increase the capacity in the sewer network that discharges into the River Tyne.
  • We are investigating potential solutions at Dene Garth which may involve upgrading the existing culverted watercourse within Cooke’s Field to reduce the likelihood of blockages and water spilling over the bank. Any works on the culvert will ensure no increase in flood risk to the Whittle Burn.
  • A notional solution has also been developed to divert surface water on the fields to the north of Piper Road, via a series of ditches and earth embankments. Storm flow will be held in a pond before being  discharged into Duke’s Dene, east of the village.

Many Thanks

Hi everyone and Happy New Year. I would like to update you on our progress since November.

I am pleased to inform you that Northumberland County Council has successfully secured funding from the Environment Agency for the implementation of a Surface Water Management Project (SWMP) within Ovingham. Northumbrian Water and Northumberland County Council are working together to put in place a collaborative agreement to deliver both the flood risk reduction and Surface Water Management proposals as one project.

In the short term the robustness of the SWMP notional solution will be checked by our consulting Engineers on way to developing the detail design. We hope to commence these checks in the near future and will be working towards construction late in the summer of 2017.

We are keen to engage with the local community seeking your views as the project develops. We plan to undertake an early engagement drop in session in March, information on the venue date and time will follow over the coming weeks.

Posted on the Planned Works tab is the updated Northumbrian Water flood risk reduction proposal along with the Surface Water Management plan.

Please leave your comments on this update or get in touch using the ‘Contact us’ button at the top of the page. I hope to hear from you soon

Hello Everyone

Just thought I would touch base with you all to confirm that the ground investigation work will commence early next week.

We will be onsite for a day undertaking windowless sampling. This is a geotechnical investigation which will allow the engineering team to assess the soil conditions within which the flood reduction works are proposed. The drilling rig will be mounted on rubber tracks and disturbance will be minimal. Upon completion the bore holes will be reinstated back to the original condition.

A plan showing the borehole locations are posted on the Planned Works tab.

If you have any queries please feel free to contact me via this portal or by ringing our Customer Contact Centre on 0345 717 1100.  I will be pleased to help.

Good afternoon everyone,

Last month, our colleagues in the Asset Delivery team swapped their desks for paintbrushes and helped give a lick of paint to the Old School.

Our efforts gave the building committee a real boost, meaning they could concentrate on other outstanding jobs and now the building is now set to officially open next week!

The team had a great day painting rooms and varnishing doors, as part of our company employee volunteering scheme, ‘Just an hour,’ which gives employees the opportunity to spend at least 15 hours of paid, work time a year improving local communities in the area it serves.

Ian Davison, Project Manager for the scheme, said: "When we’re working in an area it’s great to be able to give back something to the community. We really enjoyed painting the Old School as it was a good teambuilding exercise, while helping a worthwhile cause at the same time."

Since the ‘Just an hour’ scheme was launched in 2002, Northumbrian Water employees have spent more than 100,000 hours working on local community projects and improving the environment.
