River Gaunless, Bishop Auckland

We are investing up to £9 million to improve Butterknowle, Cockfield and Ramshaw sewage treatment works. Starting in December 2018 and likely to continue to December 2019. These works will improve the quality of the water in the River Gaunless and will not involve any disruption to the wastewater service in the area. If you have passed the sewage works recently you will have noticed some big changes. A lot of the main items of kit have now been installed. We have the last of the cleaning plants being delivered on Wednesday 8th May. This will be at Butterknowle stw. To allow the plant to get in we need to remove the gate from the highway for a short period of time. There will be a temporary gate in place during the install. Please keep the gate closed when walking along the fell and take care.
