Sunderland Strategic Transport Corridor (Phase 3)

Northumbrian Water is planning to carry out water and waste-water diversions and modifications of our network in advance of the Sunderland Strategic Transport Corridor Phase 3. The new dual carriageway which is planned to start in the Summer of 2019, will link the new south side road infrastructure of the Northern Spire bridge to A183 St Mary's Boulevard - A1231 St Michael's Way roundabout. Our supply partners, Esh-MWH will be undertaking this works on our behalf.

Hi everyone, I thought it was about time to recommence these Portal updates as we are now working on both Deptford Terrace, outside of Liebherr and on Beach Street between the Kings Arms and the B&Q access. First things first - we are still working despite COVID 19. This is because we are working on the drinking water network and in line with government advice we are considered critical workers and a high priority project - everyone needs drinking water after all. Rest assured that we are, and will continue to, abide by the governments advice and will endeavour to remain 2m apart at all times and have increased hygiene levels with more frequent cleaning and hand washing. We have also taken a number of other measure such as staggering breaks and providing operatives with extra vehicles so they can travel alone. Where possible management is working from home and anyone with symptoms or a house mate with symptoms is self isolating. Liebherr Work has restarted in the cobbled area and footpath right outside the Liebherr entrance to connect Liebherr to the new water main. which is rather more complicated than it sounds. This area has been in limbo for quite some time but now that all the issues have been ironed out and other priorities taken care of we are confident this works will be completed in the coming weeks. We do not expect this works to impact on Deptford Terrace itself although pedestrians will have to use the opposite footpath. Beach Street Work has commenced on Beach street to reduce the size of the existing main by inserting a smaller main into it. This is due to the reduced demand for water on this section of the main following our other works, meaning a larger main carries too much water which in turn means the water has the potential to go stale. This work is around 30% complete but unfortunately COVID-19 has caused our specialist sub-contractors to pull off site for the time being. The excavations have been made safe and we will continue to monitor and review as the governments advice is updated. Morning everyone, Time for another update on SSTC Phase 3: Hannover Place All works complete with the exception of one connection in the footpath between Hannover Place Pub and Liebherr plus some final reinstatement of the road and footpath. Deptford Place All works complete bar one customer connection which can be seen fenced off outside the Liebherr access plus some final footpath reinstatements. Due to issues with some other services clashing with NWGs water main this area is on hold until we design a solution. No work major expected until the new year. Farringdon Row All Works complete bar some surface box removal - fire hydrant covers and the like - plus some final footpath reinstatements. Beech Street Works starting in the new year to improve the water main. This will be done using pipe lining rather than opening a long trench so disruption will be kept to a minimum though some excavation will be required We aren't expecting to do any major works in any of the above areas until into the new year with the possible exception of reinstating footpaths. I'll take a pause from these 2 weekly updates for the time being as I don't expect there to be any changes until into the new year but rest assured I will let you know as soon as there is. We do have continuing works on the water mains within the main road contract however updates on those area are the responsibility of the principle contractor - Just because you don't see updates here does not mean we aren't working. Morning everyone. It’s time for another fortnightly update on SSTC Ph3 Farringdon Row. All works are complete on Farringdon Row with the exception of 3 small patches of footpath. We hope to get these polished off in the next 2 weeks so we can remove our remaining fencing. I don’t expect these to cause any major inconvenience. Hannover Place. The main works on Hannover place are complete and we have been carrying out the connections to the various businesses this week. There is a short section of road outside the Hannover Place public house with a lane closure under two-way lights to facilitate one of the connections and some excavations in the footpaths for the rest. All connections have now been completed and reinstatement will take place over the next few days to allow the lane to be reopened and the fencing to be removed. The cobbled and footpath area outside the timber yard has now been reinstated and reopened though there will be another visit to this area next year. Liebherr NGN have started works outside Liebherr in the cobbled area to divert the gas main. Once this works is complete, we can look at our water main works, but I have no estimates at this time. Deptford Terrace The extra works here have been completed and excavations outside the Bus Depot and the Saltgrass public house have been reinstated. There may be some small visits in the future to carry out permanent reinstatement where the road surface is currently temporary. Afternoon everyone. I'd like to give you all an update on the water main diversion works on SSTC Phase 3 Farringdon Row. As promised last time we have removed the 3 way lights on Farringdon Row and the road is fully open. Please bear with us whilst we complete the few outstanding footpath reinstatements. No further disruption is intended in this area for the water mains. Hannover Place. As mentioned last time, Hannover Place is now open except for the area fenced off outside the Saltgrass which remains passable with care. This area should be resurfaced at some point next week and opened to traffic. There are still some private connections and the final resurfacing to some area to do in the upcoming weeks but these should have minimal impact. The area of footpath fenced off outside the timber yard will also be reinstated next week though please bear in mind that this will not be the final product as some future changes are still required. Deptford Terrace The extra work on Deptford Terrace near the Bus Depot including the lane closure under 2-way traffic lights and the excavation outside the bus depot entrance is nearing completion. We have backfilled all the excavations and intend to resurface at some point next week along with the area outside the Saltgrass. The fenced off area in the verge outside Liebherr will remain closed for the time being. I've also added a few photos for those who're interested. Thanks for your on going patience. Dave Eden
