Update by Mark Robinson
Afternoon everyone,
Works are progressing well along Farringdon Row and so far, we have finished carrying out trial holes to two of the three areas quicker than we thought. Hopefully that continues!!
We started outside the Timber Supplies and Kings Arms pub at the bottom of Farringdon on the 10th September. Completing 4 trial holes from kerb to kerb enabling our design team to pick a route for the new pipe through this stretch. Completing ahead of schedule, Sunderland City Council kindly agreed to let us move to the top of Farringdon early. We are currently situated behind Currys PC World, JD Gym and Halfords and have finished the excavating and recording of findings. The road will be backfilled and reinstated this week before we move back down Farringdon to the middle section, outside the B & Q delivery entrance. This will allow access back into the retail park car park from the A1231, avoiding a diversion along Beach St.
We should be working on Farringdon for another 2 to 3 weeks, closing the section of road I mention above. Thereafter, we'll be moving across to Deptford Terrace, starting trial holes outside Willowcrete and making our way through to Hanover Place. The trial holes provide us with vital information to further design the new pipe and components, most importantly it's position, in what proves to be a very busy corridor of buried pipes, cables and ducts. It also allows us to locate pipes and cables which we need to avoid, in order to ensure the safety of our workforce and avoid any disruption to nearby businesses and residents.
Also, you'll find us on Deptford Terrace just off the Queen Alexander bridge from 1st October as we install the initial connection in the verge. This shouldn't have any great affects on the carriageway or access further along the road.
I've attached a few photos to show you where we are and some of our findings and will continued to provide further updates as we progress.
I'd like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding.
Mark
