Sunderland Strategic Transport Corridor (Phase 3)

Northumbrian Water is planning to carry out water and waste-water diversions and modifications of our network in advance of the Sunderland Strategic Transport Corridor Phase 3. The new dual carriageway which is planned to start in the Summer of 2019, will link the new south side road infrastructure of the Northern Spire bridge to A183 St Mary's Boulevard - A1231 St Michael's Way roundabout. Our supply partners, Esh-MWH will be undertaking this works on our behalf.

Update by Mark Robinson

Hello,

It's been a very busy few weeks here at SSTC, with works progressing well across the project. After a lot of hard work from the entire project team, I am pleased to announce the first two sections of water main have been commissioned and are now feeding customers along Deptford Terrace and Farringdon Row. Two down, many more to go!!

Deptford Terrace - 170m of new water main installed, commissioned and surfacing works are now complete to the section of road we excavated. The road is now open from A1231 (Queen Alexander bridge) to the bus depot. For access to Liebherr and other businesses along Deptford/Hanover a diversion has been established further East along the A1231, following Beach St.

We have commenced trial holes and further investigation in the new section of road with a view to begin excavating and laying pipe this week.

Farringdon Row - 235m of new water main installed, commissioned and works are currently underway surfacing the carriageway and footpaths from the Timber Supplies up to the B & Q delivery yard. We have also connected the last few customers onto the new main, which was carried out over the weekend. A nightshift isolation of the existing pipe allowed the water to be shut down to connect B & Q and Home Bargains.

Today, we'll be moving up to the next section; B & Q to the retail park entrance. This will mean HGV's wishing to access the B & Q/Homebargains yard will do so via Beach St off the A1231.

A few more trial holes to determine the exact route for the new pipe and we'll be off again, laying the new 450mm dia. main.

I'll send another update later this week when we have moved but in the meantime, take a look at some of our recent progress photos.

Thanks,

Mark
