Hello,
It is with great excitement that we at Northumbrian Water are involved again with the next phase of the proposed Sunderland Strategic Corridor route with Sunderland City Council. The next proposed phase being Phase 3 will link the fantastic bridge that is nearing completion and opening soon to road users, providing another major asset connecting the A1231 to the south side of the river, west of Pallion. Our supply partners Esh MWH and ourselves have been working very closely together now for 18 months with Sunderland City Council's designers - Capita, to plan & programme the most efficient way to undertake our/NWL diversions and modifications, which are required to our water & wastewater network, so the proposed dual carriageway can be built.
Our NWL diversions have been split into 2 parts, work that we can do now in advance of the road contractor, who are proposed to start next summer and, work we need to do in conjunction with the road contractor as they are establishing new kerb lines and levels for the new dual carriageway. Part 1 will start on Monday, 1st October 2018 and we aim to get that part finished by next summer,
May I introduce Mark Robinson and Christine Taylor who are Esh MWH's; Contracts Manager and Customer Liaison Officer. Mark & Christine have a tremendous wealth of experience in undertaking work with Northumbrian Water and, rest assured that all our Customers and Residents in the Deptford and Ayres Quay districts, where we are undertaking the work, will get our full attention. Consideration of the impact on our Customer and Residents who are affected by our work, is the most important aspect to NWL when we plan our work. Letters will be posted to you also in advance, to advise you of the detail of work and temporary traffic lights that are planned to be on the public highways, so we can safely undertake the work. Also we use our project Community Portal page to provide you with regular updates.
Nevertheless, works of this nature installing new water mains and sewers in the public highway, most of the time we will need temporary traffic lights and possibly temporary pedestrian and road diversions in place, to ensure Esh MWH workforce work safely in their Working Area zones. Equally as important the public are safe as well. There will be at some stages though, unavoidable temporary traffic lights and road closures that we will need on the public highway, but we are working very closely with the Sunderland City Council's Highways Inspectors to ensure any disruption is as minimal as possible.
Thank you for your patience in advance of our work.
Graeme Ridley (Northumbrian Water - Project Manager)
