Project updates

Update by Joan Tatters

Good Morning

Well it's a bitter sweet time..........

Hooray!!!! we are out of your hair I can hear you say however, I can truly say from everyone on this project we have loved working in this beautiful part of our region.

I know Michael and the team have a couple of final touches to sort, removing the Heras fencing and building a little extended fenced area near the parking bays.

The reinstating is also complete so I have added a few photos for you to have a look, admittedly it all looks relatively bare at the minute however in time I am sure it will be back to it's former glory in no time.

Both residents/holiday makers and walkers have been so understanding during the work and we would really like to express our appreciation and gratitude for your patience and tolerance, a massive THANK YOU, Warkworth it has been a pleasure.

Good Afternoon,

Following on from Ian's update here are a few photos I managed to take yesterday. I have got to say the reinstatement of the road and path is just looking great and I can't resist taking a photo of the river in all it's glory with a cheeky heron in the vacinity. I would just like to reiterate all Ian has said, it have been a absolute pleasure working at Warkworth, it's just a beautiful part of the region.

I will blog next week to confirm and finalise our departure to you all.

Hi All

I have some great news !! we are rapidly approaching completion of our works within the village. On Monday the remainder of the tarmac surfacing works were completed and the site team is working tirelessly to have the site clear for the start of the school summer holidays.

Over the next couple of days we hope to have ground out the tree stumps along the riverside path, replaced the top soil, seeded and planted some shrubs. We plan to remove all fencing and open up the footpath and car parking bays by tea time on Friday. The lifting of the site cabins can be a tricky exercise therefore we have planned to undertake their removal early on Friday morning, the timing of this task is to help us manage site safety and ensure the site is clear before the visitors start to arrive. You may have noticed that we have planted some trees around the village to replace those removed along Monks Walk, these will look really well once fully established.

It’s been a privilege to work in your wonderful village.  This has been a project with several difficult engineering challenges, Michael, Stephen and their site team have worked hard to ensure any disruption has been kept to a minimum. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you again for your patience and understanding while this work has been ongoing, especially those who have been directly affected by these works your co-operation has been really appreciated.

Thanks Again

Ian

Hi All

A big thank you for your patience last week when we were resurfacing Dial Place, apologies that the closure extended overnight into the Wednesday. The surfacing was retaining its heat and not "going off" as the ambient temperatures were too hot. As a result we were unable to put traffic onto the new road until early the follow morning, quite ironic given the winter we experienced.

The temporary fencing at the east end of Monks Walk has been removed returning full access for the residents and visitors to enjoy the defensive gateway and the wonderful bridge.

Whilst the first phase of the reinstatement was underway the sewer installation works have continued. The engineering challenges remain however, Steve and his team are making good progress installing about 12m per week. We hope to have the sewer installation complete week commencing 8th July.

Please have a look at the most recent photos and have a great weekend enjoying the ongoing sunny weather.

Good Afternoon

Ian and I want to thank those of you who spent some time with us on Wednesday during our door knocking and the very informative gentlemen who put us straight about the street numbers on Dial Place.....!

As the project is closely approaching its end Ian and I wanted to inform you personally about the two day road closure on 25th and 26th June.  We will be resurfacing the road from Dial Place to the War Memorial by The Stanners and to avoid the busier times of day we will only close the road between 09.30 and 15.00hrs, the road will remain open outside these times.

On day one you will see our site team preparing the road for resurfacing, which will take place on day two. Signage giving clear notification of this work will be posted on site in advance and visitors will be encouraged to use the alternative ‘Beach Road’ car park. The restrictions on the Dial Place perimeter parking will remain in place for the duration of these works however, access to the Stanners, via Hotspur Court will remain open.

A huge thank you to the residents who will be directly affected by the closure your co-opertion is really appreciated.

Once again to you all, thank you for understanding during this work.

Have a great weekend!

Good Morning Everyone,

I've just been talking to Steve and he has just given me a brief update....

The pipe installation along the river path is progressing well and deciding to work last Saturday was a good move as it has pushed the programme along, hopefully it wasn't too much of an inconvenience to you all. Having to conduct the sheet piling in such a confined space is certainly proving to be a challenge. (have a look at the photos) Once complete we can start the backfill to dress the path.

We will be in touch with you next week.

Hope the wind drops, Steve says it's blowing a hooley there today! Take care

Good morning everyone

I hope you all remain well. It was a lovely day yesterday, who knows but perhaps summer has arrived in earnest

I wanted to let you know that, as part of our project, we will resurface Dial Place between the War Memorial and The Stanners. This work is scheduled to take place on 25 & 26 June 2018.

To ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum, Dial Place will be closed between 09:30 hrs and 1500hrs, avoiding the busier times at either end of the day. The road will remain open outside these times.

On day one you will see our workforce preparing the road for resurfacing, which will take place on day two. Signage giving clear notification of this work will be posted on site in advance and visitors will be encouraged to use the alternative ‘Beach Road’ car park. The restrictions on the Dial Place perimeter parking will remain in place for the duration of these works.

As anticipated the sewer installation along Monks Walk has proven to be challenging, the production rate has been a little slower than originally anticipated and we anticipate a mid / late July completion. I would like to thank you for again for your continued cooperation while we complete this essential work. It is greatly appreciated.

Have a great weekend

Ian

Morning,

Where has the sunshine gone?

Just a bried update before I go off on holiday.....

Stephen and and the team have "cracked on" with connecting the gravity sewer along by the archway at the bridge this week. This has enabled the guys to have better access to conduct more connectivity work and the plan is they will work their way round to the riverbank when they can remove the heras fencing and give you back your beautiful bridge in all it's glory.

Just a couple of photos this week!!

Have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend, lets hope the weather is as good as the last one.

Hi

Happy Friday!!!!

I had a quick visit to Warkworth today to check out how things were going.

The working area is so tight, have a look at the photos. We are slightly behind programme due to coming across some unforeseen utilities so it has slowed us up a litte. That said I'm sure Michael and the guys will do all they can to catch up even it means working a Saturday. They have already stayed over one night to make sure they completed part of the work before the weekend.

Here are one or two shots, don't forget Sarah's question, we would love to hear from you!!!

Have a great weekend.

Update by Sarah Jayne Parvin

Good morning All, hope you have all enjoyed the hot bank holiday weekend.

Quick update with the work, the site team continue to make slow and steady progress with the sewer installation along Monks walk. We have installed 12m of new sewer whilst working within the constraints of the other utilities and within the restricted working space between Bridge End House and the grade II listed 14th century fortified gatehouse. As you can see from the photographs close boarded trench sheeting gives 100% protection against any ground movement ensuring no risk to the adjacent structures. We have an archaeologist visiting site and there have been no notable archaeological finds to date.

Facts about the Bridge

Warkworth Bridge and defensive gateway are well-preserved, having been by-passed for vehicular traffic by the construction of the modern bridge immediately downstream. The bridge is believed to be the only surviving fortified bridge in England. As one of several medieval monuments which survive in Warkworth, its importance is enhanced by its relationship to these, and to the preserved layout of the medieval town.

The monument includes the above and below ground remains of Warkworth Bridge, a multi-span bridge of late 14th century date over the River Coquet, and the remains of a defensive gateway. The bridge has been closed to vehicular traffic since the 1960s but is still open to pedestrians. The bridge and defensive tower are Listed Grade II. The bridge measures 43m long between land piers, with an overall length of 61m, by 3.5m wide between the parapet walls. The bridge, built of squared and coursed sandstone, has two segmental ribbed arches, each with a span of 18.4m. I have added an old picture of the bridge I found when researching for information on the bridge.

Does anyone have memories of vehicles squeezing past this tower gate as a child? Would love to hear some memories, please share them on a comment below.

Thanks

Sarah Jayne Vickers
