Tyneside Water Main Cleaning

Our water mains cleaning programme of works has been ongoing now for five years and to date, we have achieved 221km of cleaning works to our mains. There are a number of pipe sections that we still need to clean, with a total length of 9.0km. We are starting this work in August 2018 and anticipate completion in the Summer 2019.

Update by Kevin McGargle

Good Afternoon..

Just a brief update for the planned works on City Road & Swan House Roundabout in Newcastle City Centre.

In order to carry out the innovative cleaninng of the water mains by "ice pigging" on the 4th of July 2019, at 3pm we will be setting up the Road Closure traffic management that was temporarily removed to City road, this is to enable advance CCTV surveying to be carried, at 7pm that evening we will be closing the inner lane of Swan House roundabout adjacent the Fat Buddha, this is to enable the trucks that hold the ice to park safely. The process will be complete overnight and TM removed when the works are complete, normal service will be restored by 7am the following morning (5th of July 2019).

Thank you for your patience whilst we have been carrying out this work and for the night in hand, i have attached a couple of photos of the last operation we did across the Tyne Bridge so you can see the scale of what we will be doing.

Kind Regards

Kevin McGargle
