Wapping Burn Rising Main Replacement

Northumbrian Water are working with communities to proactively manage flood and pollution risk. We are committed to providing a high quality service and have identified an opportunity to improve our sewer network to reduce the risk of pollution events from the rising main which runs in close proximity to the Wapping Burn water course.

Update by Christine Taylor

Good afternoon

I have just had an email from Darren providing an update for this project.

At the northern end of the project, the team have been working on testing the main this week. All being well this should be complete early part of next week which will allow them to continue laying the pipes along Whitehouse Way. We will be installing 3 way lights on the junction leading to Premier Tech Aqua week commencing the 28 August 2017.

Southern end of the project - following the discovery of the leaking water main this halted work until it was repaired. This is because the flow coming from the leak was such that it was flooding our trench. Work is now continuing and the team are installing the pipe work to the chamber. Following this they will be crossing the Bracken Hill Junction. Traffic management is scheduled to be installed on Monday morning (21/8/17), this will be 3 way lights. As before, the two traffic light heads on Whitehouse Way will be green together, then turning red to allow traffic to exit the Bracken Hill junction. The team expect these lights will be in place for 1 week.

Have a lovely weekend

Christine
