Wapping Burn Rising Main Replacement

Northumbrian Water are working with communities to proactively manage flood and pollution risk. We are committed to providing a high quality service and have identified an opportunity to improve our sewer network to reduce the risk of pollution events from the rising main which runs in close proximity to the Wapping Burn water course.

Planned works

The notional solution comprises the provision of 1250 metres of new sewer 525mm pipe along Hunter Way, Swan Road and Whitehouse Way reconnecting into the existing main to the west of the Fire Station. To reduce disruption within the Industrial Estate the new main will be located where possible within the wide grass verges. The new main will be constructed by excavating a series of trenches to install the new pipe. When work is required in the highway the contractor is likely to be working in roughly 50 metre sections of carriageway at a time junctions will be crossed in two halves to ensure access is maintained at all times. We would notify you in advance of the work if you will be directly affected.
