Whitton Village Sewer Diversion

Northumbrian Water is looking to investing £2M to improve the resilience and enhance the performance of the sewer network in Whitton Village Northumberland.

Update by Ian Davison

Good morning I hope everyone remains well

Apologies for not being in touch for a while. I thought I would drop a line of update on progress and advise of some imminent site work.

I mentioned previously that our design team had identified a solution that would see a new sewer installed within Whitton Bank Road. In order to minimise disruption during the construction phase it is hoped that the new sewer can be installed within the eastern verge. To establish if a suitable service corridor exists our contractor plans to be onsite week commencing 9th September excavating trial holes to establish the location and level of the existing services. This work will involve the use of machinery to excavate a shallow inspection trenches, which may extend into the road, to expose and record buried utility cables and pipelines.

The location of the trial holes are show on the plan posted on the planned works tab. Traffic management will be required, if it is necessary to extend the trial holes into highway the road will be fully reinstated. This work will take up to 10 working days, the site team will do everything they can to minimise any inconvenience caused by this and will ensure that the work is carried out safely.

We remain on programme for a late Autumn start, the works will be delivered in a single operation rather than the phased approach as indicated on the schematic posted in April (planned works tab). The alignment of the sewer at the eastern end of Silverton Lane is under review, we hope to realign the sewer in the vicinity of Dr Thomlinson Middle School.

We will continue to keep you informed as we get closer to the start date.

Best Wishes
