Project updates

Update by Sarah Jayne Parvin

Good Morning, we would just like to take this time to provide you with a quick update.

We are continuing to make progress with our investigation works. Trial holes on Whitton Bank are completed, we are now working our way along the Hamlet (unnaned road) and will continue to do so over the next couple of weeks. These investigations are part of the essential upgrades to the sewer network in the area, to ensure we can supply a reliable wastewater service now and into the future.

We will continue to monitor and follow UK Government guidance regarding the emerging situation of Covid-19.

We are committed to the safeguarding and wellbeing of our operatives and customers, our staff are all maintaining a social distance of two metres and we ask that during this difficult time that you also maintain a social distance from our staff.

I'll continue to update you all on how the works progress but in the meantime, please don't hesitate to contact me on sarahjayne.vickers@jnbentley.co.uk you have any questions or concerns.

The Government guidance can be found following the link below.

Hi

Just a quick note to advise that as part of the project, we need to investigate the location and depth of all underground services along the route of the proposed new sewer and rising main (pumped sewer).

This work will involve the use of machinery to excavate shallow inspection pits / trenches within the road and verge to expose and record buried utility cables and pipelines. Traffic lights will be required while this work takes place, but the road will remain open and access maintained to all properties. The highway will be fully reinstated upon completion.

The plan shows the locations of the trial holes. This work is planned to commence on 16 March 2020 and will take up to two weeks to complete. The site team will do everything they can to minimise any inconvenience caused by this and will make sure that the work is carried out safely. Once we are on site, if you are going to be directly affected by our work, our site team will contact you in advance.

Many Thanks

Ian

Hi

Just a quick note to advise that we continue to develop the design and remain on programme to commence the construction works in Spring 2020. We are working towards an early May start we will be writing to you in advance of the works and aim to hold a customer information drop in event in April. We are in the process of securing a venue, I will contact you about this in advance of the event taking place.

We plan to undertake some survey work over the coming weekend 360 (Three Sixty Group) will be onsite on Saturday 15th February. This is non-intrusive work, no access to property will be required and all work will be carried out from the highway.

I will continue to keep you up to date with our plans for this work as we get closer to the start date.

Have a great weekend

Ian

Hi

I hope you are all well and apologies for not being in touch for a little while

I can now confirm that the pumping station concept has been further developed and approval has been secured to progress into the design and construction stage.

We are now working towards beginning construction in Spring 2020. The works will include a new sewer from Whitton to the proposed pumping station, a rising main (pumped sewer) up Whitton Bank, along Caterside Road discharging into a new gravity sewer constructed in Silverton Lane. The sewer will connect into the drainage network which serves the recently constructed housing development, before eventually draining to Rothbury sewage treatment works. I have posted a plan on the Planned worked tab entitle Schematic (November 2019).

We aim to hold a customer information drop in event later in the New Year and I will contact you about this in advance of the event taking place. I will continue to keep you up to date with our plans for this work.

Regards

Ian

Good morning I hope everyone remains well

Apologies for not being in touch for a while. I thought I would drop a line of update on progress and advise of some imminent site work.

I mentioned previously that our design team had identified a solution that would see a new sewer installed within Whitton Bank Road. In order to minimise disruption during the construction phase it is hoped that the new sewer can be installed within the eastern verge. To establish if a suitable service corridor exists our contractor plans to be onsite week commencing 9th September excavating trial holes to establish the location and level of the existing services. This work will involve the use of machinery to excavate a shallow inspection trenches, which may extend into the road, to expose and record buried utility cables and pipelines.

The location of the trial holes are show on the plan posted on the planned works tab. Traffic management will be required, if it is necessary to extend the trial holes into highway the road will be fully reinstated. This work will take up to 10 working days, the site team will do everything they can to minimise any inconvenience caused by this and will ensure that the work is carried out safely.

We remain on programme for a late Autumn start, the works will be delivered in a single operation rather than the phased approach as indicated on the schematic posted in April (planned works tab). The alignment of the sewer at the eastern end of Silverton Lane is under review, we hope to realign the sewer in the vicinity of Dr Thomlinson Middle School.

We will continue to keep you informed as we get closer to the start date.

Best Wishes

Ian

Hi all

Just a quick note to advise that we will have a surveying contractor onsite towards the end of the week carrying out a topographical survey and a ground penetrating radar (GPR) investigation. This work will be undertaken in Silverton Lane vicinity and should last no longer than six days.

The topographical survey will be in the proposed working areas to capture all above ground natural and manmade features, this information will feed the design work going forward. The GPR survey will help establish the location of both chartered and uncharted utility apparatus which will help keep our workers safe by lowering the risk of accidental utility strikes once the work is underway. The contractor will mark the roads up with spay chalk which will then be picked up and recorded by the surveyors, the chalk will dissipate over the days following the survey. The GPR works may result in follow up trial holes at a later date, I will be back in touch should this be the case.

This is non-intrusive work and we will avoid the school pick up and drop off times when undertaking the works in and around the Silverton Lane / B6342 junction, 3 way lights will be required for the survey of the junction which is planned for Thursday 13th June. When working on the B6342 advanced signage and stop go boards will be adopted to keep the survey teams safe and disruption minimal. Once we are on site if you are going to be directly affected by this work our site team will contact you. We will do everything they can to minimise any inconvenience and will make sure that the work is carried out safely.

Thanks

Ian

Good afternoon everyone.

I hope you are enjoying this lovely sunny weather, it’s a lot warmer than this time last week.

I am pleased to let you know that we remain on course to commence the site work in the Autumn and wanted to give an update on our construction phasing. Rather than adopting a staged approach the whole scheme will be deliver in a single operation.

We will continue to keep you informed as we get closer to the start date.

Best Wishes

Ian

Hi

I hope everyone is well and looking forward to the weekend, I thought I would let you know about a small change to the proposal. This project has been very fluid in its development to this stage and I must apologise for this uncertainty.  The location of the new Sewage Pumping Station has now been finalised and is shown on the latest Schematic posted on the “Planned Works” tab.

As I mentioned in last months update letter we will adopt a two stage approach, the extent of each phase of the works is indicated on the sketch. You will note that the pumping station has been repositioned into the field towards the bottom of Whitton Bank.

The Stage 1 works will comprise the construction of a new sewer from Whitton to the pumping station. The construction of the pumping station, wet well, valve chamber and the compound. The wet well and valve chamber are below ground structures.

The Stage 2 works will comprise the mechanical and electrical fit out of the SPS and the installation of the disposal rising main to connect the new pumping station into the Rothbury catchment.

We are working towards commencing the Stage 1 works in the autumn, the stage two works are currently planned 2020/21. In the interim period we will be tankering flows from the SPS constructed during Stage 1 of the works.

Have a great weekend.

Hi, I hope you all remain well and apologies for not being in touch for a while

You may remember that in September last year I provided an update about the work we were planning to undertake in Whitton. I promised to keep you up to date regarding this  proposal.

I mentioned that our design team had identified a solution that would see a new sewer installed within Whitton Bank, with a new package treatment plant and outfall sewer to the river Coquet. We were planning to commence these works in the late spring of 2019.

Further information has come to the design teams attention during our investigations which we had to consider. The package treatment plant solution outlined is no longer viable and an alternative pumped option is now under review.

I want to share our new proposal with you to understand your views about this alternative option and agree how we can minimise any disruption that you and your community may experience once the work is underway.

We are proposing the construction of a new pumping station, rising main and gravity sewer. I have posted a plan (Schematic Plan March 19) on the “Planned Work Tab” which shows the areas that we propose to be working in. The work will be delivered in two phases and there will be an interim period where tankering of flows will be necessary.

The project team are now working towards commencing the phase 1 construction work in the autumn of 2019. The phase two works are currently planned for 2020/21. It is unlikely that driveways will be blocked while undertaking the work however if it is necessary to work adjacent to driveways we will contact you in advance to discuss any access restrictions and the appropriate mitigation.

I apologise for the delay and I will continue to keep you up to date with our plans for this essential work.

Regards

Ian

Hi all

I hope you have had a great weekend. Just a quick note to advise that our contractor will be onsite next week excavating trial holes to establish the location and level of existing services along the route of the proposed sewer. This work will involve the use of machinery to excavate a shallow inspection trench within the road and verge to expose and record buried utility cables and pipelines. The location of the trial holes are show on the plan posted on the planned works tab and shown on the photo below. Traffic management will be required and the highway will be fully reinstated upon completion.

This work will take up to 7 working days, within this period we will also be undertaking a geotechnical investigation which will allow the engineering team to assess the ground conditions within which the new sewer is proposed. Once we are on site, if you are going to be directly affected by our work, our site team will contact you in advance. The site team will do everything they can to minimise any inconvenience caused by this and will make sure that the work is carried out safely. Upon completion the land will be reinstated back to the original condition

Thanks

Ian
