Marden Quarry

We are investing £2.5 million to separate Marden Quarry and other sources of surface water from the public sewer network. This will improve the performance of our sewer network and help reduce the risk of flooding. This project is the second and final phase of work being carried out in North Cullercoats.

Update by Christine Taylor

Hi

I know we left site some time ago, but I thought it would be great to catch up about the grassed area we had our work on.

Last week, myself and Steve Boyd attended site and spoke to one of the residents about the daffodils that were in the area.  We have agreed to plant some more bulbs to ensure that next year the bright yellow flowers reappear.

You will of noticed the yellowing area of grass.  We can assure you that this is not connected to our works.

The local authority, North Tyneside Council have treated this area, to kill off the grass.  They intend to plant wild flowers in the upcoming months will which flower into wonderful colour.

I have posted some photos of the area.

Good morning,

As you can see our site cabins have left the area.  I visited site last week to visit a customer and it was lovely to see the site area in lush green grass.  We are still carrying out some minor works in the area and we will be updating you accordingly.

Prior to us being on site, you will all remember the beautiful daffodils on the green.  In the coming weeks we are planning on replanting the daffodils and would like to invite local residents to get involved.

If you are interested please contact me direct at nwl.customer@esh.uk.com or phone 0191 377 4570.

Over the next few weeks we will still be monitoring this portal page, so feel free to contact us.

Thanks

Christine

Hi All,

Just a quick update about the progress at Marden Quarry. As you will see, we are moving ever closer to completion - the drainage is almost complete, the work to return the area to how it was before has started and we are making plans to remove the compound in the next couple of weeks. The disruption we are causing is becoming less and less and we should hopefully be completely finished in the next 3 weeks. In the meantime we thank you for your continued patience and support.

We're almost there!

Update by Steve Boyd (Project Manager)

Hi everyone,

This weeks update as follows:-

Marden Road South/Broadway/Burnside Road

This week has been very productive at the top end of Burnside Road, with the completion of the remaining road gully connections and  tarmac reinstatements including white lining.

You will all be pleased to know, the traffic Management signs, cones including the 2 way traffic lights, and diversion routes will all be removed lunch time today and all routes re opened for access.

The grassed area where the shaft is located has now been cultivated and re seeded, later once established re planting of the Daffodil bulbs will take place.

Marden Nature Reserve/Scouts Hut area

Works have continued this week to modify the existing chamber and the flows have been turned into the new drainage network system, works to continue into next week to commence site clearance with landscaping reinstatements the following week.

North View

We have a small section of drainage to compete to the East of the Metro Bridge on North View, although these works are currently on hold, as we are awaiting Northern Power Grid to carry out a mains electric cable diversion in order for our self to install the remaining drainage to link and complete the network.

I myself will be on a long awaited annual leave for the next 2 weeks, although if you have any queries or concerns about the scheme, please feel free to visit Paul Jones, as he will be on site, and located in our temporary compound set up on the green adjacent to The Broadway.

Have a lovely weekend.

Steve.

Hi all,

I have been to site today and seen how busy the site team have been over the last few weeks.

As you can see there two way lights in place at the junction of Burnside Road and The Broadway, these will be in place for the next two weeks for the remainder of the work.  Steve Boyd will update the portal with the removal date next week.

The fencing around the shaft has been removed and cleared away.  Steve and Paul have informed me that the landscaping of this area is planned for next week, which includes the grass seed.  We know this area had many, many daffodils planted and we will be looking to replace these later this year.  We understand some customers would like to be involved in this, please contact me direct if you would also like to be included at nwl.customer@esh.uk.com or by simply commenting on this portal.

Can I take this opportunity to wish all our friends at Cullercoats Primary School a happy holiday.

Have a nice weekend

Christine
