Project updates

Update by Colin Butler

Good Morning,

As you're all aware, West View Road was reopened on Friday 1st September after temporary trench reinstatement. The drainage work within the road is completed and we are now set to commence with the excavation of a storage tank in King George V field.

There will be a point in time where we shall close West View Road again in order to plane off the temporary trench reinstatement and permanent surface course - I will keep you all updated on the date of this. Please drive carefully on West View Road and stick to the 30mph speed limit as the surface is temporary.

As always, please direct any comments to Colin.Butler@mm-b.co.uk or alternatively, pop in and see me (be sure to bring hobnobs)

Good Afternoon,

By now you will have seen we are beginning to work in the field in preparation of the water tank we will be installing. We and the Rugby club (who have been working with us) would like to inform you it's business as usual for them so the playing fields adjacent are still available for you and your family to use.

Your health and safety is our priority so all we ask is to be that little more vigilant around that area.

Hope you all had a great Bank Holiday

Good Afternoon,

The lads have been making excellent progress within Arkley Crescent despite the tight working area and presence of services, both known and unknown. We will be held up slghtly by works to divert gas mains in order for us to progress with upsizing the drainage but once we get started again we'll progress nicely.

In West View Road, works are currently being carried out piping the new 225mmØ drainage line over a 450mmØ rising main. This work is being done with a clearance of about 20mm so it's a case of softly, softly! We're hoping to get West View Road reinstated this week with a view to it being back up and running by next Monday - but I'll keep you posted!

In King George V field you'll no doubt notice that fencing has started springing up. We've dug additional trial holes to better understand the ground conditions and are now hoping to begin the excavation to install a storage tank in September. I would like to just reiterate that this will be a 31m x 29m x 4m excavation and will be securely fenced off in order to protect the public and it's critical that no unauthorised access is made. We work very hard on designing the works to be carried out to the highest possible safety standards and these are standards to which we hold ourselves on a daily basis. We don't just strive to ensure that our men go home safely at the end of each day, but also that members of the public are safely segregated from anything which could cause harm. If you see anything that you feel could be an issue or needs looking at, please don't hesitate to drop me an email on Colin.Butler@mm-b.co.uk

Have a great day

Colin.

Morning All,

I would just like to reiterate Colin's comments, it's essential we do this work and whilst we appreciate it will be a little painful to some of you in Arkley Crescent, I know after talking to you last week you are all on board with our project.

With that in mind........again thank you for your patience and understanding during the work we will do our utmost to keep the disruption to a minimum.

Good afternoon everyone,

As you can no doubt see we are progressing with works within the parameters of a road closure in West View Road. We have been carefully piping away and negotiating various service crossings including water, gas and telecoms. We are still on track to have this road closure reopened in approximately three weeks time.

We will be relaying the tarmac to our current trench approximately 15m in order ro reopen the junction at Arkley Crescent/West View Road on Monday 31st July. This will be strictly for access to Sedgewick Close as we will be introducing the second of our series of programmed road closures on Arkley Crescent from Sedgewick Close to Miers Avenue. We will be carrying out works to upsize the existing drainage in order to relieve the flooding issues that've been experienced and we would like to thank you all for your continued patience whilst we deal with this problem. The lads will be working against existing flows of both foul and storm water so it is of the utmost importance that this is carried out in a healthy and safe manner within isolation from the general public.

We expect these works to last approximately six weeks and we will make every effort to minimise disruption and complete as soon as possible.

Again, thank you all very much for your consistent patience during the ongoing works.

As ever, please contact me on Colin.Butler@mm-b.co.uk should you have any issues or questions.

Kind Regards

Colin Butler

Good Afternoon Folks,

As you can no doubt see, the road closure is effective as of today for one half of West View Road. The carriageway will be closed whilst we install drainage at 3m depth before turning into the field at King George Park. We hope to have the road back up and running in approximately four weeks time but I will keep you posted accordingly.

In light of this, now is a good time to take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Colin Butler and I'm the Site Agent for Mott Macdonald Bentley. I will be looking after this project on behalf of MMB and Northumbrian Water until project completion in the early part of next year. I can be reached at Colin.Butler@mm-b.co.uk for any queries. Also, I've attached a picture so you know who I am should you prefer a chat.

We are carrying out critical works upsizing the drainage capacity of the network around Arkley Crescent, Miers Avenue and Bruce Crescent and will be installing an 1100 cubic metre storage tank in King George Park (So expect to see cranes on the horizon) Once we have completed the flooding issues in the area should be alleviated. Due to the nature of our works we will be installing intermittent road closures throughout the area. The next closure will be the top half of Arkley Crescent from West View Road to Miers Avenue, (with access maintained through Miers Avenue)

I'm sure you'll all appreciate that carrying out the work under closure not only protects our staff and public but also enables us to complete the works as quickly and safely as possible.

Please get in touch with any queries

Thank you.

Update by Ian Davison

Hi Everyone

What a miserable day after the highs of last week, we're right back down to earth with a bump with this rain, thankfully its forecast to improve and the weekend should be much better

I was onsite with my colleagues from Mott MacDonald Bentley last week where we had the pleasure of catching up with a good number of our customers who will be affected by the works. I hope you found our conversation useful allaying any fears you may have with respect to the planned works. Construction notification letters were posted out to the extended community the week before last advising on anticipated time scales and road closures. The letter along with the supporting plan is posted on the planned works tab for review at your leisure. We will be commencing as planned on the 3rd July and it will take a week or so to establish the site compound before work starts in earnest on the sewer installation. We will post frequent updates on the portal which will keep you informed with our with traffic management information and apprised on the construction progress.

The site team would be pleased to help you with any queries or concerns once we get up and running, alternatively please feel free to contact us with any concerns or simply post a comment here on the community portal.

Have a great weekend

Thanks

Ian

Good Morning,

Whilst it's been a while since I blogged, I just thought I'd let you know I am still around and it's likely you will see a lot more of me and the Mott MacDonald Bentley team in the coming weeks.

Following on from Ian's post, I thought I'd give you an update as to where we are. Working closely with the utilities companies to alleviate any potential programme clashes is proving successful and as a result we are hopeful this will not disrupt our schedule of work.

Within the next week or two you will receive a letter from Ian offering a little more detailed information so please watch out for it. If there are any questions you would like answering Ian, John Hogg (Northumbrian Water's Customer Service Manager) and I will be conducting door knocks on June 20th in the area so please come along and talk to us, we would be happy to help as we really welcome your thoughts and views.

Alternatively you can drop us a line on the portal or you can telephone the contact centre on 0345 717 1100 either way we would love to hear from you.

Hope you see you soon.

Update by Ian Davison

Hi I hope you all remain well

I would like to advise of our progress since my update earlier this month. We continue to work closely with Hartlepool Water, Northern Gas Networks and National Power Grid and have agreed the diversionary work required on their networks to avoid clashes with our new sewer. This enabling work will be undertaken in advance of the sewer installation. The programming of this work is yet to be agreed however we anticipate it will commence in June with the main sewer scheme to follow in July taking approximately seven months to complete.

I will keep you informed of any programme changes as we progress. Should there be any issues during the enabling works the respective utility company should be contacted

The sketch posted on the planned works tab shows the location of the proposed new sewer. We will construct a new storage tank to the rear of Arkley Crescent and you will see we are also increasing the size of sections of the sewer in Arkley Crescent, Miers Avenue and Bruce Crescent.

I will be in touch again with more scheme specific and traffic management information closer to the construction start data.

We will continue to engage with the local community seeking your views and addressing any concerns you may have. Please leave your comments on this update or get in touch using the “Contact us” button at the top of the page. Alternatively if you would like to contact me by telepnone, now or during the work, please contact our Customer Contact Centre on 0345 717 1100 to request a call back from the Project Team. I hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks Again

Ian
