GENERAL WASTEWATER

Mickleton STW Minor Works

We need to carry out some essential works which will improve the treatment process and help ensure that the site always remains fully operational. The works will involve repair and refurbishment works to the STW between January 2024 and July 2024. Before the works commence, we need to carry out vegetation clearance in preparation for the construction work, as well as needing to set up temporary treatment units and pumps to allow us to undertake this work.

Project updates

Update by Christopher Bond

Hi everyone.

We have been working really hard to progress the refurbishment works on site, in challenging weather at times, since our last update. The team on site are continuing to work to complete the mechanical and electrical works. We are around 80% complete now, with new covers arriving to site this week.

Disruption will continue to be kept to an absolute minimum, and your water and sewerage services will not be affected during this time.

If you do have any questions, please leave a comment below and a member of the project team will get back to you.

Thank you for your continued patience.

Update by Sarah Jayne Parvin

Hi All,

As we approach the festive season, I am pleased to bring you the latest update on the Mickleton Sewerage Treatment Works project.

We have successfully established and activated the temporary treatment facilities/plant on-site. This marks a key phase in our project, ensuring continued operations with minimal disruption to enable us to carry out the repair and refurbishment work.

The site team will be on leave from December 20th, returning on January 2nd, 2024. During this period, the site will be closed, but security measures will remain in place.

For any urgent matters, emergency contact details are available  at the site gate.

Your understanding and cooperation have been crucial to the progress of this project. We thank you for your support throughout this year.

Wishing everyone a safe and joyful festive season.

Update by Gabrielle Ward

Hello,

Just following on from Chris' update, I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and some of the Project Team from Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB). My name is Gaby Ward, I am the Customer Liaison Officer for MMB and will be conducting the engagement with our customers and posting regular updates on here. We also have Ben Corner (Contracts Manager), George Maddison (Site Agent), Michael Pitcher (Project Lead), Graeme Eagling (Electrical Design Engineer) and Helen Frost (Process Lead). MMB are carrying out the work at Mickleton STW on behalf of Northumbrian Water.

We wanted to let you know that our team will be commencing with setting up the site working area including the delivery of our welfare unit and the set up of the temporary treatment works from Thursday 30th November. During this time, the vegetation clearance works along Yarker Lane will take place which will entail tidying up and trimming back over hanging branches. Please take extra care if you are in the area as there will be more traffic than usual for the next couple of weeks. Our construction work will then commence in January as mentioned in Chris' previous update.

Please feel free to leave a comment below should you have any questions and a member of the project team will get back to you.

On behalf of the project team, we would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year!

Speak soon!

Gaby

Update by Christopher Bond

Hi everyone

To introduce myself, my name is Chris Bond and im a project manager for Northumbrian Water. You will shortly receive a posted letter detailing essential works which are being undertaken at the Sewerage Treatment Works (STW) in Mickleton.

What we are planning and when

We need to carry out some essential works which will improve the treatment process and help ensure that the site always remains fully operational. The works will involve repair and refurbishment works to the STW from Spring 2024 and will take up to five weeks to complete. Before the works commence, we need to carry out vegetation clearance in preparation for the construction work, as well as needing to set up temporary treatment units and pumps to allow us to undertake this work. The temporary treatment units and pumps will be on site from January 2024 until July 2024. You can find out more information, including planned dates on our community portal by visiting www.nwlcommunityportal.co.uk and follow the link to the ‘Mickleton STW Minor Works’ page.

How you will be affected and what we are going to do to help you

The STW will remain fully operational so there’ll be no impact on the wastewater service we provide. You may notice some noise during this period while this is underway, although we have tried to keep this to a minimum by using a hybrid generator system which will run off battery power around 80% of the time and only use diesel to recharge the battery. Construction traffic will need access to the STW, so you may see an increase in vehicles utilising the access track to site.

We will continue to update you on the progress and works on site as we go forward, howoever if you would like to speak to a member of our Project Team in the meantime, you can telephone our customer contact centre on 0345 717 1100 or tweet us @nwater_care, or message on this portal. Whichever way is best, we’d really like to hear from you.

Thank you
