Project updates

Update by Liam Nicholson

Good morning all, Keith from The Ryhope Engines Museum has kindly sent over some images from when the roof was installed in 1959 as shown below.  Its fair to say that working conditions and health and safety have improved in the last 60 years!  If you havent had a chance to visit the Engine Museum then it is well worth a visit as Keith and his team maintain the engines in perfect working order and have them running during their open days (Obviously the museum is closed at present due to Covid 19).  Victorian engineering is a marvel to behold in operation!  A list of their opening days is available here: http://www.ryhopeengines.org.uk/index.html

Hi my name is Callum, I am a site coordinator for Stonbury who are a specialist contractor working with Northumbrian water to ensure that your drinking water assets remain in only the very best condition.

This particular site is listed and we are working with English Heritage to protect the soil that we will be removing from the top of the reservoir. As the soil is removed, we will ensure that it is carefully segregated and then placed back onto the roof at the end of the project.

The scope of the works for this project includes:

The installation of a new waterproof lining for the roof

Some concrete repair works to maintain the integrity of the tank

The replacement of a scour valve.

To lift and rebed access hatches.

The installation of a internal liner

And an upgrade to the sample tap kiosk

These works should take around 34 weeks and we aim to keep any disruptions, such as deliveries to a minimum. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to comment below and also please do subscribe to stay up to date.
