GENERAL PROJECT

Slaley WINEP P & Improvements

As part of the Water Industry National Environmental Programme (WINEP), we will be installing a new chemical dosing plant (electro coagulation) and replacing parts of the existing treatment process to enable the site to meet the forthcoming phosphorous discharge consent of 0.7 mg/l, which will apply from December 2024. The improvement works will cost £5M and is one of 27 sites within the NWG region to receive this upgrade. Phosphorous is a nutrient and can cause algae to grow in watercourses, reducing biodiversity and river water quality.

Update by Julie Oakley

Good afternoon,

Its been a few weeks since the last update so I thought I would let you all know what has been happening

In the last month, works have progressed well on site. The inlet flume channel walls - (Photo 1)  which are used to measure the flow of water are now fully constructed as well as the concrete slab for the Motor Control Centre (MCC) . We have also installed the ducting and draw pits (photo 2) ready for the electrical subcontractors starting next month and reduced the ground at the bottom of the site in preparation to build the Mecana filter units (cloth media filtration systems) (Photo 3), the pipework and adjoining manholes. Other completed works include laying the rising main pipes for both the interstage pumping station and the site returns pumping station.

In the next few weeks, we hope to complete the civil construction on the Mecana filter units (cloth media filtration systems) area including a concrete base slab (Photo 4)  and retaining wall. The Soneco unit (Photo 5) which is a sustainable liquid chemical-free water treatment process will be delivered on the 3 September, the Motor Control Centre (MCC) kiosk building will be lifted in by crane on the 5th September and the Motor Control Centre (MCC) panel will be installed on the 16th September.

Deep excavations will start for the Humus Settlement Tank which is used to clarify effluent and Primary Settlement Tank which is used in the treatment process ensuring effective removal of suspended solids from wastewater providing a large settlement area, this will include sheet piling operations which may cause additional noise.

Thanks

Julie
