Blyth Sewage Treatment Works Refurbishment

We are going to invest £1.3 million to maintain the quality of the River Blyth estuary and coastal waters for the benefit of people, the environment and wildlife. The existing sewage treatment works was completely rebuilt in 2000 and in recent years it was discovered that some of the concrete structures have started to show significant deterioration. Our work will repair a concrete structure that is essential for treating wastewater from the Blyth area to make sure the estuary and coastal waters remain in good condition.

Update by Sarah Jayne Parvin

Good afternoon, just thought we would give you as little update as to what has been going on since we moved into the treatment works in Blyth.

We carried out a shut down in Tank 1 and drained out the water to a level where we could carry out tests, which took about 3 days, this highlighted one of the parts (a sock) needed replacing. The tank was drained and cleaned all the grit and particles that remained. This took 3 days for that process to be complete. Whilst this was being complete MMB installed a new section of pipe which included a new valve arrangement to control the water flows and also replaced the sock which was highlighted during the earlier tests.

Works on the tank were complete on the 28th March and the tank was put back into operation. I have included a couple of pictures below of the tank and the new valve.

We will keep you updated thoughout the project, in the meantime if you have any questions please dont hesite to contact me on here or via email on sarahjayne.vickers@jnbentley.co.uk

Thanks

Sarah
