GENERAL PROJECT

Burnhope Reservoir

Together with our supply partners Esh Stantec we plan to carry out operational maintenance works to Burnhope Reservoir, adjacent Wear Valley Water Treatment Works, this year. These works are needed to ensure the resilience of the reservoir. The work at Burnhope Reservoir, which has a project value of more than £1.8M is planned to start in July 2022.

Planned Work

Together with our supply partners Esh-Stantec, we plan to carry out operational maintenance works to Burnhope Reservoir, adjacent to Wear Valley Water Treatment Works, this year. These works are needed to ensure the resilience of the reservoir. During the work we will endeavour to keep disruption to a minimum.

The work at Burnhope Reservoir, which has a project value of more than £1.8M is planned to start in July 2022. It will involve drainage refurbishment to the lower part of the external dam face and maintenance to the overflow structure near the valve tower on the crest road. Modifications are also being made to the outlet tunnel and pipes from the dam that feed the adjacent water treatment works. There will be no effect on water supply during the project and the reservoir water level should be unaffected by the planned works. Work will continue until the end of this year and potentially into 2023. This is highly dependent on the weather conditions. You may notice an increase in vehicle movement to facilitate the works, rest assured we will aim to minimise disruption and further information will be made available as work progresses.
