Our proposed refurbished assets will allow us to remove more water from the sludge bi-product that is created when we clean the wastewater at Consett Sewage Treatment Works. The assets will reduce tanker road journeys thereby protecting and enhancing the environment. Our sewage treatment works aids NWG in improving the quality of rivers and coastal waters for the benefit of people, the environment and wildlife.
WHERE WE WILL BE WORKING AND WHAT IT WILL INVOLVE

We will be replacing existing sludge treatment assets with new ones which will allow us to condition waste sludge from the treatment process, to a reduced water content, before it is transported to our regional Advanced Aerobic Digestion plant on Tyneside.
Our construction work on site is expected to start November 2018 and complete December 2019.
We shall be demolishing old tanks and equipment during the first two months of the programme and shall commence the building of the new assets in early 2019.
This work benefits the environment by reducing the number of journeys and road miles driven by our fleet of sludge tankers. It also makes our Tyneside based Advanced Aerobic Digestion process run more efficiently, leading to the generation of better quality biogas and more renewable energy.
