Update by Shafqat Akbar
Hello everyone. The works at our Fontburn project are progressing very well. In this update, I want to share with you some of the environmental management protocols we have agreed and established on site. We consulted with Natural England and Northumbrian Water on the best way to protect the small animals and mammals that share the treatment works and local area with us.
Our environmental team constructed a "hibernacular" for displaced newts. This becomes a new home for them. The photo above shows a hibernacular that we made earlier.
We consulted with Natural England and agreed how we will manage the presence of any bats on site or in the immediate area. We obtained a "bat licence" before we started works on site.
Our site teams ensure we mitigate noise levels to minimise disturbance on local wildlife and our neighbours. We check all equipment for noise levels that will be generated before it is procured and we monitor noise levels on site to protect our colleagues on site, our neighbours and the local wildlife.
We are aware that light pollution can be an issue at Fontburn for our neighbours and for small mammals. We endeavour to cut all light pollution particularly at the beginning and end of the days.
