GENERAL PROJECT

Fontburn Lime Dosing

Northumbrian Water is investing £3 million to upgrade the Water Treatment Works at Fontburn to make sure you continue to receive excellent quality tap water in the future. The work, which will commence from early March 2020 will see upgrades to the facilities and water treatment equipment within the site and we aim to complete this by September 2020. Northumbrian Water’s trusted partner, Interserve Construction Limited will be carrying out this work on our behalf. Residents may notice an increase of vehicular traffic to and from the site whilst deliveries are made although we will of course do all we can to keep the disruption to a minimum. Please be assured that your water supply will not be affected by these works. Glyn Jenkins NWL Project Manager

Project updates

Update by Shafqat Akbar

Hello everyone. Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year break. I just want to update you on the works at Fontburn.

We are prioritising maintaining Covid security at our workplaces. We have reinforced the NHS message "Hands. Face. Space".

Hands – wash your hands regularly and for at least 20 seconds

Face – wear a face covering in indoor settings where social distancing may be difficult, and where you will come into contact with people you do not normally meet

Space – stay 2 metres apart from people you do not live with where possible, or 1 metre with extra precautions in place (such as wearing face coverings)

We have previously installed hand sanitising stations at strategic locations on site. This photo shows one of the hand sanitising stations.

We have a rule to keep 2m apart. This poster and similar posters are displayed on site to remind people to keep a safe distance from other people.

We are focusing on keeping a safe working environment for everyone. This poster shows some of the other rules we have in place to keep everyone safe.

Hello. In today's update I want to concentrate on the envionmental side of our works at the Fontburn water treatment works.

We have consulted the local authorities on environmental matters and we have no issues on site. There are bats, great crested newts and many other animals in the vicinity of the works.

We have constructed a "hibernicula" refuge for newts.

We have worked to minimise light pollution for the benefits of our neighbours and bats.

Hello. We have made steady progress on site since the last update on the Fontburn project. We have progressed the design detail and continued operations at several locations on site.

The temporary crane platforms are complete and advance works to remove the first of the silos have started.

We will start working in the pre-lime chamber and in the waste water building. The planning stage is at an advance stage.

The next operations are to continue with the pre-accommodation works.

The site and compound set-up are complete. The works areas comply with the covid management protocols. The Project supports "the three simple actions" promoted by the NHS; "wash hands, cover face and make space"

Hello. The works at Fontburn have gathered momentum over the past couple of weeks. We have set the site compound, car parking area and welfare units up in one corner of the site. The hard works start now. The site team are progressing well with the undergound operations. One more point before I go, the site team have established covid-19 compliance rules on site. We have hand sanitising stations in the welfare area, office block and adjacent to the car park. We have rules that ensure social distancing on site and in the offices. Thank you to everyone on site for making all of this work.
