Project updates

Update by Brian Hall

Hi everyone

Our cabin set up is now in place ready for Phase 2 works to start.

Over the next few weeks you may see a bit of activity around the Northern and Southern Spillway and also on the Dam Crest. We are just going to carry out a few final checks and doing some minor investigation digs to help us with the design.

We will keep access for walkers open during this period.

We hope to commence works to the Dam crest sometime in the middle of March we will keep you posted on how that goes

Many Thanks

Hello everyone

You may remember my last update where I predicted levels at the Reservoir returning to normal within 2 to 3 weeks? this was allowing for a rise of around 1foot per day and did not take account of the Lunedale weather. As it was the rain brought levels back to normal that weekend and as you can see by the below photographs it is very high right now. Ground work has been slow this last week due to the rain fall but we are continueing to establish the site. Hope this weekends weather is kinder for you

Hello everyone

This week we have completed the last of the ground investigations and enabling work in the wet areas and so the reservoir water level will be allowed to rise in a gradual, managed process. We expect that the reservoir return to normal levels within the next two to three weeks after which activies such as sailing and fishing will return to normal. We will continue with establishing our work site and access route but this shouldnt cause any disruption; then reinstating any affected areas and cleaning the roads of mud from site traffic.

We will be returning to carry out further work on the reservoir early next year, we will advise a date nearer the time depending on weather, and the water  will be reduced again to a similar level where it is now.

Hello everyone

We have started work on establishing the site compound and are now working on the access road to Cote House Caravan Park. We will be removing some sections of the fencing and widening the road to allow for safe vehicle entry and exit, and establishing a road onto the site area for setting up. We will share some photographs when we have a set up in place.

Update by Brian Hall

We are currently carrying out essential maintenance and improvement works to Grassholme reservoir. These works are needed to ensure the resilience of the reservoir and improve its surrounding environment. From Monday 9th September 2019 until December 2019 we will be carrying out groundwork excavations and setting up a site compound in the areas shown below. This may lead to some access restrictions although we will try to keep all pathways and access routes open and accessible. The reservoir will be maintained at its current level to enable us to deliver some investigations and preparation in advance of next years planned works. We anticipate the reservoir refilling later this year to its normal level. The reservoir will be lowered again early next year. The project team will continue to minimise disruption to reservoir users. It is anticipated that sailing and fishing will continue during the work although some unavoidable restrictions will be in place to ensure the safety of users as well as our staff.

Hello everyone

We have been carrying out some ground investigation work around the reservoir over the past couple of weeks. This should be finished by the end of this week. Next week we will be starting to establish our site compound with access off the road leading to Cote House Farm Caravan Park. We have selected this location as we think it will be the best location to minimise disruption.

You may have noticed the current discharge of water through the scour valve into the River Lune. We need to bring the water level in the reservoir down about 4 metres temporarily to do some investigative work. Due to the amount of rain recently we are discharging water through the scour valve into the river. It looks quite spectacular but the river is handling it nicely.

We will further update over the next couple of weeks as the site develops and we have more news.
