Project updates

Update by Paul Davison

Good afternoon,

Again, apologies for the lack of updates. Over the Summer and into Autumn, we have visited site a number of times as part of the process of commissioning the plant. This has provided valuable information on the performance of this new technology (electrocoagulation). Based on the performance of the Soneco plant, we have taken the decision to replace this  with a slightly bigger unit to ensure that it can meet current and future needs and provide the necessary improvements to the quality of the receiving Long Dyke Burn and ensure the project delivers upon its objective as effectively as possible.

The design and off-site build of the new Soneco unit has already begun. We will be removing the existing unit (and temporary welfare cabin) in early December and it will be returned to the factory where it can be repurposed for another site. We’re expecting the new bigger unit to be ready to be delivered to site early Spring and fully expect this to be up, running and performing by mid Spring.

Good morning, apologies for the lack of updates, we have been busy completing the remaining mechanical and electrical work at site over the past couple of months but this has taken longer than originally planned due to various delays with sub-contractor availability and long lead in times on critical pieces of equipment.

The Good news is that with the refurbishment work now complete, we are now ready to commission the new plant which will improve the quality of treated effluent which discharges to the Long Dyke. If all goes to plan, we should complete the commissioning in the next two weeks and demobilise from site. A period of regular sampling and monitoring will follow but this will form part of our regular operational visits.

I’ll provide a further update on completion of the commissioning but for now, thanks again for your patience and cooperation while we’ve completed this important upgrade works at our site.

Good afternoon,

Earlier this month, the electro coagulation system was delivered to site and the access metalwork was also delivered and installed on site. The delivery of these 2 parts constitutes the bulk of the large deliveries to site.

We are now making the pipework connections before we move onto the electrical install in the next few weeks.

Many thanks

Kat

Good afternoon,

I hope you had a lovely Christmas and settling into the New Year.

Thank you for your patience when we had to work a Saturday earlier this month.

The concrete slab is now in place.

Enjoy the rest of your week.

Good afternoon and happy New Year, I hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas break.

While we are starting the New Year with milder weather, the very cold weather we experienced through December has had an impact on progress as we were unable to pour concrete etc.

Now that we are back on site, we’re looking to pour the main Soneco concrete slab tomorrow, however, this will mean working on Saturday morning to strip the shutters (wooden formwork) once the concrete has had time to initially cure.

Overall the delays experienced in December will extend the construction work by circa 3 weeks and we’re now likely to be complete my mid-February.

Regards

Good morning,

As part of a wider Water Improvement National Environment Programme (WINEP), we are improving our treatment process to reduce the amount of phosphorus entering the receiving watercourse. Using innovative technology, we will be installing an electro coagulation system that combines both electrolysis and ultrasound in a single modular unit to condition wastewater prior to traditional solids settlement.

Work will begin on Monday 24 October 2022 and we expect this to take up to 3 months to complete, however, as with all construction projects, unexpected delays can sometimes occur.

Given the location of the existing treatment works, we don’t expect significant disruption, however, there may be a noticeable increase in construction traffic along East Road off the A1 during the construction period.

Please be assured that we are working closely with our partners to do all that we can to minimise any disruption to you and your community throughout the work. Typical working hours will be Monday to Friday, between 8.00am and 5.00pm.
