GENERAL PROJECT

Longhorsley Sewage Treatment Works Upgrade

WE ARE INVESTING OVER £850,000 TO IMPROVE THE PERFORMANCE OF OUR WASTEWATER TREATMENT AT LONGHORSLEY. THIS ESSENTIAL WORK WILL HELP TO IMPROVE THE WATER QUALITY OF THE LONGDIKE BURN FOR THE BENEFIT OF PEOPLE, THE ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE AND ENSURE THAT THE TREATMENT FACILITY CONTINUES TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY EFFECTIVELY.

Update by Paul Davison

Good afternoon,

Again, apologies for the lack of updates. Over the Summer and into Autumn, we have visited site a number of times as part of the process of commissioning the plant. This has provided valuable information on the performance of this new technology (electrocoagulation). Based on the performance of the Soneco plant, we have taken the decision to replace this  with a slightly bigger unit to ensure that it can meet current and future needs and provide the necessary improvements to the quality of the receiving Long Dyke Burn and ensure the project delivers upon its objective as effectively as possible.

The design and off-site build of the new Soneco unit has already begun. We will be removing the existing unit (and temporary welfare cabin) in early December and it will be returned to the factory where it can be repurposed for another site. We’re expecting the new bigger unit to be ready to be delivered to site early Spring and fully expect this to be up, running and performing by mid Spring.
