Civil works is now nearing completion on site at Sacriston, with the new delivery road complete and the sludge tank installed and awaiting connection to go into service.

We’ll now be concentrating on finishing the remaining small amount of civil works, and then the mechanical and electrical installations can begin.

Hello,

Works are now well underway with the civil works almost 50% complete. The two major pieces of equipment required for the new compliance, the chemical dosing kiosks and the tertiary treatment unit have now arrived at site.

Going forward over the next few weeks we’ll be carrying on with the civil works and making a start on some of the mechanical installations.

Hello

I’d like to introduce the team from Galliford Try that will be completing the work at Sacriston on behalf of Northumbria Water. My name is Jane Cooper, and I am the Customer Experience Coordinator for Galliford Try. Our Site Manager is Iain Cunningham and our Project Manager is Mark Goodby

Construction works have started on site, with the site setup being completed early January. Current works ongoing involve the reduction and levelling of ground for the new tertiary treatment and chemical dosing slabs.  Once this levelling and stoning work is complete then piling will be carried out late February.

See link showing a couple of photos of the early stages of the project. Sacriston Photos

Update by Paul Davison

Good morning, you should have received a postcard this week letting you know that we are preparing to start work on the upgrade to Sacriston sewage treatment works to help improve the water quality in the South Burn.

Work will begin on Monday 15 January 2024 for up to 8 months. However, as with all construction projects, unexpected delays can sometimes occur. Typical working hours will be Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.

The site is located east of the village, surrounded by woodland and we don’t expect significant disruption. However, there may be a noticeable increase in construction traffic accessing the site via the B6312 and Cross Lane during the construction period. Please note that caution should be taken when crossing the existing access track to the works.
