GENERAL PROJECT

Sherburn Upgrade

Starting in 2022, as part of a £12.9 million scheme, we will be carrying out essential work to improve the performance and flexibility of our wastewater network and wastewater treatment works in the Pittington and Sherburn areas of County Durham. The scheme will help to improve the water quality of the Coalford and Sherburn Becks, as well as the watercourses downstream. We are yet to confirm an exact date when the works will commence, however once we do we will contact you to ensure you’re kept informed and made aware of any possible disruption.

Update by Gabrielle Ward

Good Morning,

It's time for the final update of the year!

Since our last update, the Motor Control Centre Kiosk and the electrical panels have successfully been installed. All electrical works to the MCC Kiosk are now complete.
As mentioned in our previous update, the Mecana (filtration equipment) is also now up and running. The site team are currently carrying out works to the existing site to enable increased flows to be taken from Pittington in the new year.

I have included a video which gives you a birds eye view of the NSAF Tanks that are designed to promote nitrification into the water which significantly reduces the ammonia levels from the effluent. Air bubbles are forced through the tanks as you can see in the video. The oxygenation helps to increase the amount of bacteria in the tank, which then eats the ammonia from the effluent. Once the ammonia levels are reduced, the effluent can then be flowed into the next treatment process. You can view the video here.

We wanted to let you know that the site will be closing down for the Christmas break from Wednesday 20th December until Tuesday 2nd January.

On behalf of the project team, we would like to thank you for your continued patience this year and we hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and New Year!
