Stokesley and Great Ayton

We are investing £3.3 million to improve the performance of our wastewater treatment works in Stokesley and Great Ayton. We plan to begin this scheme in August 2018 and expect it will take up to 12 months to complete. This scheme will help to improve the water quality of the River Leven. Our partner, Interserve Construction Limited, will be carrying out this work on our behalf. Upgrades to the existing treatment works as well as the construction of new equipment at the two sites will be carried out. The construction works at both sites will be within the existing site boundaries, which are securely fenced off and our working hours are between 7.30am and 5.30pm, Monday to Friday. Construction traffic will need to access to the works from the A172 and A173, as a result, there will be a higher volume of site traffic when vehicles transport materials to and from the site. We will add drawings and photographs of similar works to this community portal to aid your understanding of the proposed works. We will also use the community portal to provide regular updates on the progress of the works once they commence. We would really like to hear any comments or questions you may have, so please get in touch using the 'Contact us' button at the top of the page or leave a comment below. Hello everyone. We are about to commence preparatory work at Great Ayton. On Tuesday 21st of August we will have workers on site to fell and remove a large tree which is unfortunately in the way of the new building work. There will be some noticeable activity on site and a bit of noise, we will try to be as unobtrusive as possible. If you have any concerns please feel free to contact me. Hope you all have a great weekend, best regards

Hello everyone

After a short break the project is up and running, we have a press release:

£3.3 million investment in Stokesley and Great Ayton treatment works

30.04.2018

Northumbrian Water is investing more than £3m in upgrades at two of its sites that will benefit the environment through improved treatment of wastewater.

Work at the sewage treatment works in Stokesley and Great Ayton are scheduled to begin in August 2018 and last for up to 12 months, enhancing the processes at the facilities and improving the quality of water that is released into the River Leven.

The projects will be carried out by Northumbrian Water′s partner, Interserve Construction Limited, and will take place within the boundaries of the treatment works.

As well as upgrading existing facilities, new equipment will be installed and constructed, to ensure the two sites treat the area′s wastewater in a way that continues to meet the most stringent legislative standards.

Northumbrian Water Project Manager Dean Thompson said: "We are always looking to ensure the highest standards of treatment of the wastewater - or sewage - that comes through our network, and this investment at Stokesley and Great Ayton will help us to achieve that.

"While the work will be contained within our sites, we will work hard with our partners to ensure people living close to the works are kept fully informed. One way we will be doing this will be through updates on our community portal at www.nwlcommunityportal.co.uk where people can find out all about the project and keep in touch with the team."
