WATER NETWORK IMPROVEMENT

Tyneside Water Network Improvements

Northumbrian Water are embarking upon an investment of over £6m in our strategic trunk mains water network in Northumberland, North Tyneside, Newcastle and Gateshead. This project is known as Pipeline Management.

Update by Dave Eden

Morning All - Time for what may well be the final update from me on this project.

In the past few weeks, we have completed construction of the underground valve chamber and installed all the surface covers and concrete mowing strips. The basic landscaping and topsoiling has been completed and clearing site commenced.

On the Mechanical & Electrical side, the kiosk is complete, and all the cabling, control and instrumentation is in place and ready for use.

Both strategic water mains are now back in operation and delivering clean drinking water to Carrhill Service Reservoir.

This week we are removing the concrete slab we installed in the footpath at the park gates to allow us to drive heavy vehicles into the park without damage to the footpath or services underneath. This had necessitated the diversion of pedestrians to the other footpath whilst we carry out the works. We should have the footpath reinstated in tarmac (bitmac) by the end of the week.

Commissioning of the works should also be completed this week to bring the site into full operation.

With a bit of luck, all cabins, fencing, materials, and plant will be removed from the park by the end of the week and the whole area reopened to the public.

Unfortunately, due to the timing of completion and the associated weather at this time of year, it is unlikely that the final dressing and grass seeding of the work area will be possible, so there will be a brief return visit in the spring to complete that works. Please be assured that the bare soil is temporary, and the area will be fully grassed.

There will also be a short visit to install an antenna once planning permission has been finalised, possibly early in the new year.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their patience and understanding on what has been at times a challenging contract. We have prevented access to part of your park and whilst we have always endeavoured to keep noise and disturbance to a minimum, it can’t have always been easy, especially for those nearby and even with homes overlooking the works, so we are very grateful for your tolerance.

Thanks again,

Dave Eden
