NIDP FLOODING PROJECT

Ushaw Moor

We are currently undertaking a Stage One Northumbria Intergrated Drainage Partnership (NIDP) study in Ushaw Moor. This involves the collection, collation and analysis of existing flooding data from all sources to define issues and opportunities for integrated working between Northumbrian Water, the Environment Agency and the Local Authority. Stage One allows us to identify all of the flooding issues in a drainage catchment, whether these are sewer flooding, surface water flooding from overland flow or flooding from watercourses and rank them in order of priority based on the number of homes they impact.

Update by Loren Jennings

Good morning.

I wanted to let everyone know that in the coming weeks we will have surveyors out in Ushaw Moor, mostly in the areas of Temperance Terrace, Broom Crescent, Pringle Place and Scripton Gill.   They are going to be accessing drains and sewers under the road surface to inspect them with video cameras.  And in some instances, we also will be asking to look at the pipes and drains around people's homes to see where exactly they lead.   This will really help us better understand the causes of flooding within your community.

Good afternoon.

I am sorry that is has been a long time since I have updated you on this project, so please accept my apologies.

I wanted you to know that before our lives were interrupted by Covid, we did manage to complete the Stage 1 which identified areas of integrated flood risk.  This means there was risk of flooding from not just sewers or drains, but also potentially watercourses or surface water runoff.  The areas we will be advancing into Stage 2 are:

  • Temperance Terrace
  • Broom Crescent
  • Pringle Place
  • Scripton Gill

If you live in these areas and wanted to share your experiences with flooding, or just give us information which could help our study, it would be very welcome.  You can also ask me questions here by replying to this update!

Good morning, everyone.  My name is Loren and I am the project manager at Northumbrian Water for our strategic study in Ushaw Moor.

The goal of these studies is to find where flood risk overlaps from various sources, such as sewers, highway drainage or watercourses.  With this information, we can then identify projects which can be built in partnership between Durham County Council, Northumbrian Water and the Environment Agency.
